Not at Harvard. It is definitely not a big party school. More like small parties with people who share interests.

The frats have a few athletes but are mostly geeky, nerdy kids. If you are a non-frat male, you can’t get into a frat party unless, say, you bring four women with you. Geeky, nerdy boys then have to suffer the indignity of being excluded by other geeky, nerdy boys — at Chicago. This is yet another reason not to go to Chicago: go to a school where you are not excluded. Say, a Davidson, where all parties are open to everyone…

If the sort of party scene described is tipping the scales for your kid - your reasons for considering U of C seem misguided imo. For most students, The nerdiness is the coolest thing about the place.

If your kid wants to be at a SLAC, Davidson seems like a fine choice.

The original statement is very true based on who has gone to UChicago from DD’s private school in recent years.
