I don't want to wear glasses any more

This is a possible alternative from a decent source that is supposed to have less chance of dry eye:

My lenses are trifocals. My contacts make me unable to drive or read. I look pretty but can't function.

What's that?

I had dry eye for a year, but everything healed well, and I'm so glad I went through with it. Also, the doctor preemptively under corrected one eye so that I won't need reading glasses for a while. I am 46 now, and I don't have any issues with close reading, yet.

This is not horrible. I’m worse in both eyes and it’s fine.

Consider the merits of PRK versus
LASIK. It’s a worse recovery but better long-term stability and eye health.

Contacts aren’t great if you have dry eyes, need bifocals, or other issues like astigmatism.

What? At -7.5 I could hardly see anything unless it was like 2 inches from my face.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? For some people it's a real hassle wearing heavy glasses every day, and contacts dry out your eyes. It's worth exploring options and then deciding.

I am -8.5 in one eye and -10 in the other. I wear contacts all day, glasses before and after I put them in and take them out. My glasses aren’t heavy—just get the super thin lenses.

Same - I have -9 in one eye and a -8.5 with astigmatism in the other, and I have very dry eyes. Dailies have been a life saver.

They make contact lenses for Presbyopia. You can also just wear glasses when you drive and read. I wear reading glasses with my contacts.

I am 46 and had LASIK last year. So worth it! I have monovision, so disatnce in one and reading/computer in the other. I kinda miss my glasses (I loved them and had fun ones) but not the daily headaches from being +4 in one eye and -5 in the other.

Dailies are ok but stopped working for me when I turned 40. I had to take them out mid day bc my eyes were so dry. I had been wearing contacts since middle school. Not tolerating contacts happened pretty fast. LASIK was a great decision. I’m the -7.5 posted above.

I also spent a lot of money on the thinnest lens but no matter how thin, you can’t hide the prescription. They’re like magnifying glasses.

I’ll add that my sister in law who is older, 48, still wears contacts and tolerates them fine. If they still work for you then keep doing what you’re doing.

I had to stop wearing contacts for 2 years when I was 40, but started again after I found an optometrist that gave me several options to try until we found the perfect fit. I'm now 52 and still wearing them. It's $1000/year but worth it.

Question for crowd.
My recent toric lens Rx is
-6.50
-5.5

And the paper says BC 8.6, Diameter 14.5

Do you think I could be a candidate for LASIK?

Even if just to improve from “blinds as a bat”
