Anyone watch The House of Guiness?

I watched 10 minutes and then turned it off, and I’m usually a big fan of period dramas.

Okay, now that I've seen the season... I was kinda "eh" about it at first, and posted upthread that I found it almost too much like Peaky Blinders to stop my brain from comparing it to that. But it really picked up toward the middle of the season, and I was actively engaged by it in the last few episodes. But... that ending though! I hate it when shows cliffhang a season finale. When does S2 drop?

Normally I hate horror but there was something quite compelling about the family dynamics and the flashbacks were quite well done. Did not recognize Mark Hamill at all either as the consiglieri.

Never seen Peaky Blinders though.

I think this poster is talking about a different show — maybe fall of the house of usher?

House of guiness is about 1868 Ireland and the inheritors of the guiness brewery. Very very loosely historical.
I would be interested to know what PP’s Irish friends hated about it. I have a general sense that the Irish hate anything that makes them look too “Irish” in a historical sense because so many Americans already have this frozen famine view of Ireland. Also I noticed that at least half the actors are British which is weird considering how many good Irish actors there are.

I really liked the music background — basically all Irish music with a mix of different styles.
There was on actor that really irritated me (the bastard cousins) but other than that I thought the acting was pretty good. Some ridiculousness but not as soapy as some of the other Netflix historical dramas (like the Spanish stuff which is ridiculously soapy).

Took me two episodes to remember that actor's name, and why something about him almost immediately got under my skin, more than just the character. He'll always be joffrey baratheon.

OMG Joffrey! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize him but he definitely gives an icky feeling. Poor guy, that’s a hard vibe to overcome.

I’m really surprised to hear some of these reviews. I made it through an episode, but it was some of the worst writing and acting I’ve seen in a long time. My husband agreed and wondered if it was the first script fully written by AI…that’s how banal and awkward the writing was.

We liked it for the drama, and I liked the costumes, especially Anne's. Honestly, I've reached the point where drama and excellent costumes will make me happy. (Digression, but with some series, like Wayward, there are so many plot holes that it's frustrating to watch.) Come to find from Wikipedia that, no, Arthur probably wasn't gay, it's just that he and his wife didn't have children for whatever reason, so that was a complete invention, which sort of pissed me off (because I'm a history major undergrad, not because I care about him being gay or not), but again, I'm here for the drama, so ok I guess.

Saw the last episode, at least of this season. Spoiler: alcoholic brother Benjamin in the show doesn't have much in the way of Wikipedia but he and his descendants carried the Baronet line after Arthur. Second son.
There apparently are hopes for more seasons. I thought the show was pretty good. Haven't watched many period dramas. It was too slow/long though.

Boring. Like watching paint dry. It won't get renewed.
