Is your DH ready to pay for a rental on top of repairs?

I don’t know why people say this, this hasn’t been my experience at all. I always go through insurance, it’s a neutral third party and better long term.

If they’re giving you the option of paying out of pocket, you should expect that they choose how and where the car gets repaired and if they want or need rental car it’s on you.

I will also add that car parts may be on shortage. Check with repair shop on availability of any parts you need. This will add to the hassle and any rental car.

The easiest thing to do is to go through insurance.

PP is right about this. And, a lot of people won't accept junkyard parts.

Nor should the other driver's parents accept it. They are entitled to get the car repaired with dealer parts at the top body shop/repair shop in town. It will still cost you a lot less than if you file an insurance claim.

That is silly. It is a teen driver car soon to be totaled anyone. BTW Junkyard parts are often better than new parts, I had my car fixed myself at my body guy and he actually wanted me to use junkyard parts for the bumper, grill etc. Sometimes it fits better and in my case GM was on back order on those parts so only choice was chinese knockoff parts or junkyard or wait several weeks for OEM parts.
And rental car you folkd are nuts. Teens cant rent cars. My kid had an accident and since 19 there was no such thing as a rent a car even though I had coverage. They dont rent to teens

sorry it is no longer 1943. My teen had a non fault accident and Geico dropped us. Teen driver with accidents is getting you Progressive at best with a higher rate. And a second accident it really shoots up.
