Do teens value primary sources?

How do you teach kids this when they are older? I spent a lot of time trying to give my kids a solid grounding in logic and finding fallacies, and I thought I could leave it at that after middle school…

I’m not sure how to really start the conversation back up and engage my teen who mostly speaks in monosyllables unless forced.

Both my teen boys are really smart and we’ve always valued discourse at our home. Which is why it is so infuriating when they come up with these “opinions” and “ facts” and when asked the source, it comes down to tik tok, male influencers, and YouTube. And because they KNOW the facts, there is no discussion to be had that doesn’t result in an argument. It makes me nostalgic to my teen years when I had little opinions on important things because I had to actually read articles or the encyclopedia and couldn’t be bothered. 😂

Doing your own research came to mean watch 2 youtubes during covid.

Ironically, AP and Wikipedia are more reliable and accurate than newspapers nowadays.
