1. don't list this as an award. a lot of high schools only give school-specific nominations to kids who 1) have the specific school on the top of their list and 2) would take it if they get it and 3) need the money
it's like saying you're EDing to another school AND you're poor. 2. yes, it's worth it! as someone else said, the essays can be reworked for other schools/scholarships. |
This is absolutely not true. There is no "automatic" admission if you win the scholarship. The processes are completely separate. This is made very clear on the scholarship's website. |
It is true. My kid is an Echols and her roommate last year is a Jefferson Scholar and confirmed this fix to us. |
You have got to be kidding if you really think that settles the matter. Wow. |
I'm the poster whose kid was a finalist for the Jeff last year. At one point during a finalist zoom they told them that they all had been accepted to UVA, so finalists are indeed all accepted. (And students who are finalists but don't get the Jeff get a $1,000 per year scholarship.) |
| I think it was changed at some point. If you win the scholarship, you're admitted |
Look, I get that. But that doesn't mean you're "automatically admitted" if you win. It just means you won't "win" unless you're admitted first. Do you understand the difference? You're making it sound like the scholarship committee effectively takes the admissions decision away from the admissions committee by awarding the scholarship, and that's not true. In any event, the OP is talking about merely being a nominee. Merely being a nominee means nothing, of course, from the standpoint of admissions. |
girl, breathe. we all get the situation. |
Are you just making stuff up? |
well, girl, it sure didn't seem that way. not my fault you're incapable of writing clearly and cohesively. |
You won't know for sure until your kid makes it to the final round! |
| Being nominated by your school does not mean that the student is considered the most impressive uva applicant from that school. It’s indicative of an impressive student who is very likely to actually attend uva if offered. Most schools won’t nominate the top students who are likely to be offered admission to ivys and other top schools and likely to attend those instead of uva. |
Finalist interviews are in February and RD decisions aren’t until April. They would have no way of knowing who is going to be admitted. |
The scholarship people work with admissions to extend admission to all finalists. Don't believe me if you don't want to, but that's what happened last yar (yes, in February.) |
A lot of kids EA/ED. |
