And your silver ACA plan likely has less benefits and higher deductibles/costs than the COBRA. I'm 55 and a SILVer ACA EPO plan would cost almost 40% more than our COBRA for much higher deductibles and overall costs. |

I'm paying $1600 per month on a silver ACA plan for one person.
I get no subsidies. In my state if you gross over $45,000 per year you do not qualify for subsidies. |
| Get a job even if part time in retail to get insurance |
I don;t think part time gets insurance |
Sure they do. |
| At Starbucks and Costco they do - don't know about other places. At my tiny nonprofit, PT does not get benefits |
| I am looking at ACA. I plan to withdraw money from my 401k plan. Does this count as income? I also have a small rental condo? What is consider as income and see whether I qualify for subsidies. For this year, I don't qualify but next year. I may qualify since I don't have a job. I have not start taking the social security. Does this count as income? I need to find insurance by Nov when my current one expire and need to make a decision of COBRA or not. |
| You should get on the ACA. It should save you $2,500 per year for a family of four and you can keep all of your doctors, but only if you like them. Someone famous once said that. |
It all counts. There is a broad definition of income for ACA subsidies. I only have about $20k in earned income but I do not qualify for ACA subsidies because of unearned/passive income including rental income, dividends and capital gains. |
| As a person in my mid fifties, this scares me. Unbelievable that we accept this healthcare system in this country. |
SOME large companies offer benefits to part-timers, but you usually have to work at least 30 hours a week. So not really what most people think of as part-time. You can't pick up a couple shifts at Starbucks and get insurance, unfortunately. I'm a PP in the same boat as OP and I've looked into it! |
Starbucks is shutting down many stores. Costco does not have many jobs open. |
