Do you have multiple library cards? All of them are different. Most of mine allow 10 holds.

DP here. I have 4 library cards. I’m in MoCo. Several libraries in MD, as well as, DC public library offer cards to those in neighboring jurisdictions. I believe this is true for VA, as well. Between my 4 cards, I can have up to 40 books on hold. But what’s even better is that if MCPL doesn’t offer a book, one of the other libraries is likely to.

As someone who was constantly pushing off audio book deliveries (but never more than 9 months), the update is a great improvement.

Each library is different. Fairfax County is 10, I believe, and the DOD library is 15. I have both.

Do you have physical cards? My online memberships expire after some time.

There’s always been a ā€œsuspend holdā€ option at any time a book is on hold, but there was also an option when a book is ready to be checked out to delay for a chosen number of days. I had a couple of books come available a couple of days ago and I went to delay for a week, and the option was gone. I didn’t know what it meant to ā€œsuspend holdā€ once I’d already gotten notice that the book that the book was available.

I’m not sure whether the change is positive or not, but I think removing a popular option (at least I’m assuming it’s popular, I know I use it a lot) without any explanation probably led to some complaints.

+1 I was so confused this week when I tried to select the deliver later option.

I just suspend it and immediately after hit unsuspend. It moves you to first on the wait list.

Thanks for this tip! I didn’t understand the change and got 5 holds all at once that I can’t finish in time.

Even though it was only something like 2-3 days to decide, the book isn't moving during that time and surprisingly it meant that almost 50% of book copies were sitting unused at all times in this holding pattern.

By switching to this "suspend" system it takes out some of that and should make books move from person to person faster. Doesn't make complete sense to me, but I think I get it.

I don’t *believe* the ideas it was giving 2-3 days to decide. Here’s why. Multiple times I would wake up to see I had a couple of notifications. One at like 3am ā€œyour hold is now availableā€ and then at 6:30am, ā€œyou missed your hold, you will be placed next in line.ā€ Arrgggh. So I’d have to wait a few more weeks just because I didn’t pick it up at 3am.
