Surprised at the harshness in this case. It does not seem fair.

Then do not go to a country that is religious. Problem solved.

-not a Muslim

You think it won't be a problem in the US in 2028. You are not paying attention and are incredibly stupid.

Yeah, that's just dumb. Not the sentence but her doing it. What did she think was going to happen?

OP-your subject heading is not accurate. She was not sentenced to 30 months of prison for wearing a T-shirt, she was sentenced for wearing a T-shirt that would be deemed blasphemous to the official religion of the country (Morocco is an Islamic state.)

The sentence is way harsh but seems like the person went out of her way to be inflammatory.

By all means, celebrate the oppression of women. And don't you dare support the ones who are fighting their oppressors.

The "law" she broke was bringing harm to islam. Anyone can decide they are offended by anything in this case and get randos arrested? C'mon. You have to see that a t-shirt with a slogan isn't jail time material.

Honestly, the US isn't far off though. Calls for people to be fired or jailed for comments about charlie kirk. Soon you won't be able to wear a tshirt with an anti trump message or ICE will come pick you up.

Who cares if it was distasteful? She should not be in prison for daring to say them.

The American ideals of freedom of speech do not apply to Morocco. You can disagree with the political regime they have, but it is beyond foolish to expect other countries to have laws that are identical to that of your home country.

I wasn't expecting it. SHE was!!! And she has every right to expect basic human rights in her own country, you moron.

Nor do they apply to Americans any longer.

You must not have seen the picture. The shirt is in very good taste.

And she also wasn't traveling to another country trying to offend people. She is Moroccan.

Is that what you would have said about women who fought for your right to vote in this country? How about the ones who broke the law to help the enslaved?

The ignorance in this thread is astounding.

Yes, she broke the law and the sentence is horrifying. What's more horrifying is the complete lack of human rights in Morocco, but especially women's rights. And you are just shrugging your shoulders.

She wasn't doing anything for human or women's rights. Trying to draw a parallel between suffragettes in their own country trying to ensure a vote and someone being wildly provocative in a country not their own? Who exactly is ignorant again?

"On 23 August 2009,[2] along with her friend Zineb El Rhazoui, she co-founded the Mouvement alternatif pour les libertés individuelles (MALI), a movement to defend individual freedoms in Morocco.[3][1] In Moroccan Arabic (Darija), mali also means "What's wrong with me?" or "What are you accusing me of?"; thus it constitutes a rhetorical question to opponents of freedom, telling them to mind their own business."

How do you think change happens? She is being provocative to draw attention to her movement and to the fact that individual freedoms (especially for women) are extremely lacking in Morocco. I'm sorry you know nothing you about her or Morocco.

Yeah by all means, she should LOVE to be subjugated and not have the basic human rights you do.
