Elon U: this is interesting, I guess.

Is Elon, often still considered a safety, strong enough to pull this off? The lifeguard has to be strong to pull a sinking person out of the water.

Are you the same poster that stated "death spiral" and "sticking to its knitting"?

Queens has 1300 undergrads and requires all to live on campus. I wonder if they'll eventually become Elon in Charlotte undergrads and earn an Elon degree.

It’s grad programs, not undergrad.

Thanks. I know how to read and understand what they wrote. My point is I wouldn't be surprised if they deviate from the initial grad focus. The bigger opportunity is for Elon to build an undergrad presence in Charlotte. It would be similar to what Northeastern has done with its mergers.

PP’s point is that Queens has existing undergrads.

Will they move to Elon? Seems unlikely that there will be space. Even if the intention is for the Queens campus to be grad, they’ll have to either keep existing undergrads there as they finish their degrees (and would that be an Elon degree or a Queens degree?) or move them.

I think you meant “often considered a safety by the elitist parents on this board.” Plenty of kids are excited to go to Elon.

Interesting. My kid has a couple of friends at Queens -- they wanted D1 athletics, and somehow, Queens is D1.

My answer wasn’t intended to be snarky, I also shared the email sent to parents. I don’t believe so at this time, at least based on what they are currently saying.

Mine is a freshman so don’t claim to know much, but they are heavy into experimental learning with internships being a grad requirement so could see them using Charlotte connection for this. Not sure about an extension campus down the road like a Northeastern, but who knows. Don’t close any doors I suppose.

The Queens campus could become a creepy carcass. What are grad students going to do with athletic facilities? If undergrads wanted to go to school there they wouldn’t need a merger.

I think Elon is a school on the rise. Lots of preprofessional stuff happening, school is maybe following the Northeastern model with new campuses.

Elon's endowment is weak. Less than $400 million for more than 6,000 undergrads.

Myers Park is the high end area in Charlotte, location is great.

Nursing is good at Queen maybe they’ll start a medical school program or expand business and engineering.

A safety for some maybe, but it's a highly regarded university and has excellent outcomes.

Elon has some great medical programs so there could be some crossover there, plus closer to hospitals for clinicals.

DD is applying to Elon so we’ll follow this carefully.
