Park City First Class vs Europe (Avoriaz, Megève, Zermatt). Worth it or will the teens just care about Wi-Fi and space?

Keep an eye on what’s going on with Park city this year. We went at Christmas last year, stayed at a ski in ski out condo on the town side, but unfortunately it was during the strike. Lines were terrible at the lifts, you could ski IN but not ski out, meaning we had to ride the town lift for 20 minutes back down the mountain every day because the town slopes were closed.

Given that it's a ski trip, make life easier on everyone and go to Park City. Save Europe for the summer.

DH is from Europe. The only reason we went there with the kids was to visit family. Otherwise, I would not have taken them there because it was a waste on them. They didn't appreciate it. Yes, a lot of teens care most about their phones.

They are now 20 and 17, and only just starting to appreciate going to different countries.

Spend a ski weekend somewhere on the east coast. Skip the flights and spend a long weekend somewhere. Or skip it entirely and do a day trip. All of those European options are way to fancy for teens who don’t care where they are because they’re staring at their phones.

No, the skiing is so, so much better out west. No comparison.

I would do Park City. Higher chance of snow and better conditions vs Europe. That early for xmas, your best bet is probably Breckenridge. Skip the 1st class tickets since not too long a flight. If your family are intermediates to advance, Canyons are great. We spent almost all our time there last year.

I would just do ski trip to Europe when kids are out of the house.

Park City is a zoo. Lived and skied there when it was still fun, now its Disneyland where you spend your entire vacation in line. Avoid anywhere on the Epic Pass. If Utah, go to Alta, Snowbird or Solitude. You could also look at Sun Valley, Jackson, Big Ski, Tellurude, Crested Butte.

Honestly your children sound like brats. Wherever you take them, they will still be there, and be brats.

Is this trip about incredible skiing, incredible scenery, novel culture, or luxury accommodations. None of these is wrong, per se, but you might not be able to afford all of them at once.

We have a vacation home in a premier US ski destination. So if we travel to ski, there has to be some other draw. But a lot of our friends and family pay expensive airfare to travel to stay in our vacation house. And we also travel to other places. Just depends what you are looking for.

I'm unsure of what to accomplish. What got me wondering about Europe is that the pricing for Park City is almost the same, as Airbnbs are at the 15k mark, which then makes travel to Europe more accessible. However, will the extra travel and hassle be worth it? I feel like if i am dropping 18-20k wouldnt' it be better to go to a foreign country than the US? But then I have my kids, and they are probably going to like being in the US the most, ughh. LOL, I can't wait not to have kids because, if it were up to my parents, it would be Europe.

Wow, well you won’t in just a few years. It’s profoundly sad you are wishing away some of the most fun years of parenthood, TBH.

Anyway, if you want new/modern, US. But the wifi will be fine in Europe. The rest of the amenities might not, but they have WiFi everywhere. It’s a small continent and digital infrastructure is much easier to accomplish.

I’m going to get booed but skiing in Europe is not my fav. Love going for other reasons.
