FTR I think the whole industry and those who participate are grotesque, but this is a very natural and obvious progression that many of us saw coming (and warned about).

Most people, if they are able to, choose skin and eye color the same as their own. An egg free of any known genetic mutations is ideal. As for looks that’s just a crap shoot and he’s a moron if he thinks the egg is some kind of clone of the mother, like he’d get an exact copy of the mother. What’s the father look like? If it’s him then he won’t get his model baby.

Eh, that skater, Alyssa Liu's father chose donor eggs of a different ethnicity. 5 kids, all half white. And he claims he did not choose Chinese eggs because he's considers himself a "citizen of the world". Well, how come black or latino eggs didn't make it into his consideration? And how come his actual Chinese wife's eggs weren't good enough for at least one of those kids?
The IVF industry is moving towards engineered babies. I can't imagine what it must be like to grow up knowing that.

Most straight couples don’t use an egg donor unless the wife has infertility. If his wife were able to get pregnant naturally they almost certainly would not have used an egg donor.

There is no talk about the parents trying for years, or going thru IVF, or obtaining donor eggs.
The father straight up opted for surrogacy each time, bypassing his wife who he later divorced.
There was an article in the WSJ about a mainland Chinese billionaire was has fathered over 100 American born children via surrogacy. And then there was another story ( and thread on here) of a female Chinese tech millionaire hiring women to have babies for her. She was totally nutso and not maternal material and probably there was good reason she could not find a suitable partner for parenthood.
America is one of very few countries that has no restrictions over surrogacy.

I don’t think there should be any federal government restrictions whatsoever. This is going to be used as an opportunity for social conservatives to ban it entirely.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Surrogacy and buying biological material (eggs or sperm) should be regulated and overseen by a governing body of some sort.

What about the poor couple who were recently given the wrong eggs? And who has their baby? Awful. They know they are going to have to give her up.
