We bought a house this summer in Fairfax, and there were homes where we walked out of the car, and immediately turned around and got back into the car because the noise from Ffx Cty Pkwy was too much.

I think it depends if there is a sound wall or not, and what the landscaping in the back is. I almost back up to 66 in Falls Church, but the sound wall and some trees really help block it out. yes, I can still hear the metro, but I can also be on 66 in 2 minutes.
