We took a trip to Antarctica with what we saved on buying “real furniture”. Best money we ever spent.

I follow Kelly Proxmire, a top DC designer. She is all for mixing high and low and often posts pictures of rooms she has done with very expensive pieces combined with something from Ikea or Wayfair.

Anything from Overstock.com Found a great sleeper sofa there 10 years ago and it still looks as good as new.

I am a big fan of IKEA for case goods. I bought a kitchen island (that I use against the wall as a cabinet and counter. So solid and I've used it for 20 years along with a matching TV stand and book case and shoe stand. They all recede a bit into the wall. They are not standout pieces but they are solid.

I like off brands from Home Goods.

Agree.

Ashley leather is bonded leather, not real leather. It lasts around 2-3 years before the peeling starts.

IKEA is the best cheap stuff imo. But I have not had success with the upholstery. But the kids Hemnes furniture is going strong.

Costco! I like their case goods. Our bedroom set is from there as is our TV stand. We've had both for 15+ years and two moves.

My shark vacuum cleaner ($250 max, is amazing) versus a Dyson or Miele

You beat me to it. I'm older so I've owned lots of vacuums like Sebo, Miele, Kenmores, and Dysons. I must say that I'm really impressed with the Shark I picked up at Costco for our vacation home. I wish it were bagged but you can't beat the features and suction for the price.

Facebook marketplace! This is such a transient area and people sell everything before moving again. There's great stuff to be had.

+1 to Ikea Hemnes!

We've also done major renos where we've saved on Ikea cabinets (kitchen) which allowed us to spend alot on appliances. Totally worth it.

Just redid our closet with Ikea too. Looks great.

I've never found cheap couches/chairs to be worth it, though. Splurges are worth it on pieces you sit on.
