| I can't believe the number of people who are constantly Venmo'ing their spouse back and forth. That must be an exhausting way to live. |
The names on both sides are public, and disclosing personal connections in that way can be dangerous. Also many people add more context info like "$20 to Lucy's mom for class gift for Ms. Brown's class" or "$80 for baseball tix for September." Someone with bad intentions could absolutely use this info in a way that could harm you or someone you know. I've had several family members in recent years become victims of scams and having information like this would be very valuable to a scammer. One family member was almost scammed out of thousands when someone called claiming to have been injured on a rental property this family member owns and rents out. No doubt this person got this info from real property records but when they called with some detailed info about the property ownership that was correct, my family member was inclined to believe other things they were saying. This is how scammers operate and there are more of them than ever and they play a numbers game. I do not want people like this to have info about me or anyone in my family that they could use to scam not only me but my parents or siblings or kids. I don't want someone approaching my kid after school and saying "hey your mom contacted Ms. Brown and told her I'd be picking you up today. I know you don't know me but I'm friends with Lucy's mom." |

Young people think it's fun, it's like a social media feed.
Most older people whose Venmo feed is public are just unaware. I don't share mine but I don't see why it's "chaos." |
| You’ve spent way too much mental energy on this. I don’t care if someone knows I pay my cleaner and dog walker weekly. |
|
A neighbor who has a public profile labeled a payment "lice treatment" couldn't believe it!
Also so strange that married couples split expenses like meals - a coworker with a public profile sent money to wife for sushi and other transactions that looked like meals. |
Contacts and transactions. It's a national security issue to spell out who the President considers close enough to send some bucks to. Mainly his family. |
| My account is private but I don't think anything on Venmo would be that interesting. I am more shocked by parents that allow their kids to post pics in bathing suits. |
|
I don’t get it either OP. And furthermore I don’t even understand why Venmo was necessary when PayPal was doing the same exact thing with more privacy.
Joe Biden’s transactions were not public, btw. JD Vance’s were. https://www.wired.com/story/jd-vance-venmo/ |
| My sisters didn't know theirs were public. I'd bet a lot of people aren't aware unless someone tells them. |
OMG this is why I can't use venmo. So creepy! The panopticon is real! |

But it's been entertaining to watch politicians and other sanctimonious twits be taken down when they pay for their mistresses' expenses using venmo not realizing it's public. |
p If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide. |
I think some women honestly get a thrill out of this. I know so many women postng their 13 to 16 year old daughters in bikinis, bragging about their "Biolage" hair, mani, etc. and I simply cannot imagine my mother doing this when I was young. She wanted to keep me a kid forever. |
| so everyone can see all the cool activities you do and the friends you're paying. |
