No help here but I deal with this almost every day. Don't have the bowel issues but the unreal gas every afternoon/evening for hours. I've seen multiple doctors with no luck so far. It's been years and is so depressing. Gas-x doesn't do anything. Will be watching this thread in case there's any other ideas. |
You need to keep a food diary. |
You need to do a food elimination diet. This is not normal. |
No, it's not normal and it's awful. I've done food elimination diets, low FODMAPs, on and on. It's just getting worse and there's not much I can eat. Feeling so helpless. |
Try GAPS. |
Keep a log. Data will help. But go see a gastro. |
This is the most obvious thing and Americans do not realize how common it is. People also become lactose intolerant as they age. Find lactose free yogurt and products op. Lactose intolerance can cause more problems than just flatulence but common symptoms are copious foul smelling flatulence, bad breath, and the need to constantly poop that isn't quite diarhea. It's one of the top reasons for fecal incontinence and parents always assume more complicated issues or behavior issues when children have problems with this. |
Have you looked into exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency? Although that’s usually accompanied by stool issues. |
I another poster and also deal with gas and bloating every day. I start off fine and end the day fine but late aftetnoon/early evenings, i am a bloated mess. |
I was the same until I identified an ingredient added to some flours that caused it. Malted barley flour. It's in most cereal, breads and baked goods, even European ones. If I avoid it, my problem disappears. |
Hi all OP here trying to revive this thread and get some help. I have an apt with a GI doctor but not until December. Today I’m dealing with really painful bad gas again and hoping someone has some advice on an OTC med that works. I’ve tried Gas-X and it doesn’t really seem to have helped. I also took activated charcoal. A friend of mine said might be better to get a muscle relaxer so my gut can relax and the gas can pass through more easily, but she’s not a medical professional, just a friend trying to be helpful. |
Phazyme. Better than gas-x. |
Have you tried pepto bismal? That or the CVS anti-has chewable work better for me than gas-x. But don’t use them every day. And avoid drinking things with bubbles - you don’t need more gas. Are you getting enough exercise? Walking, reclined twists, bicycling legs (eg, how you would for a baby with gas), climbing stairs, yoga… Do you eat quickly or take big bites? Have you tried chewing slowly at 20+ times per bit? Eat small meals? I know it’s frustrating! I had to work hard to ID my triggers and even still sometimes have issues. The pp that recommended leaning against a bathroom counter is spot on! That also helps me. So does the “I love u” abdominal massage; it is typically used for constipation but IME helps get out gas that is trapped. I sometimes need to do this before bed, and during the night or the next morning have relief. |
Some of you are hysterical literally hysterical. The anxiety you all live with is truly insane. Everything on this board is some sort of dire emergency or cancer. EVERTHING. 24 hours of gas requires trips to the ER, do you all hear yourselves?
This is peri, there are a lot of estrogen receptors in the gut which effects gas and digestion. Usually mid-month and the PMS week you can/will get more stomach distress issues. Gas attacks like these can last 3 days if you're also constipated at the same time. |
Double the dosage of GasX and see if that helps. Have you ever had a colonoscopy? Just wondering if you’ve been checked for diverticulitis because that commonly starts during the peri stage and includes symptoms you mentioned. |
