Every other dog where I live is a doodle!

It’s really that simple.

It’s why you see Malti-poos and Yorkie-poos — which weigh 4 pounds — instead of Maltese and Yorkshire terrier dogs AND you see giant Burna doodles and golden doodles that way 100 pounds instead of golden retrievers and Bernie’s mountain dogs. All on the same block in North Arlington or Ward three

Dads don’t vacuum?

We got a doodle because of allergies; yes. We pay way too much for grooming every two months. She’s snuggly and sweet and a ball of anxiety. Pros and cons, but we love her!

The answer is that:
a) the “reputable” breeders breeding purebred AKC dogs are difficult to find and contact, and the purebreds have a reputation of having health and behavior problems that can be hard to understand and screen for
b) people rule out rescues and “rescues” because they don’t want a pit or hound mix puppy, which are the vast majority of puppies bred irresponsibly and later placed by rescues, and it can be difficult to assess behavior concerns with older dogs of other breeds for adoption.
c) there are a lot of doodle breeders who are easy to contact (because they’re actively running a business) who seem morally okay and have puppies available.

That’s it.

Why? Is it just allergies?

Be grateful they aren't all pit bulls.

About a 1/3 of the non doodles are pit mixes

Due to allergies paid too much for a doodle during the pandemic and currently pay too much for grooming. BUT, our dog has been life changing for one family member. Well worth it. The backyard breeder was a nice guy and only bred his personal dog twice (yes, we checked). It was a win-win for us all.

We had no issue finding an AKC dog through a breeder. We had to wait a bit but that was ok.

Rescues are reselling dogs and not always truthful. Some are very expensive.

But don’t have they have to be bathed a lot? That poster on another thread seemed to say the doodles she watched got stinky quickly.

My dog sheds a lot, but I don’t have to bathe her much at all.

Doodles are cute though, I’ll admit. Are they smart?

You SHOULD be bathing your dog regardless of shedding. That is gross. We try to bathe every week, brush daily but sometimes we go two weeks but prefer not to. Regardless of the dog we'd bathe frequently as its gross not to.

Mine is cute, smart and demanding.

We stumbled into a bernedoodle 15 years ago (RIP) for $200 on craigslist. At the time, I thought it was just a woopsie. Then I find out several years later that people are getting $2000 for these things.

It really was a great dog, though. And it was hypoallergenic and didn't shed.

I wouldn't give 4 figures for a dog, though, unless its job was saving the life of someone I loved.

People do pay that much because they don't want to support backyard breeders like the one you gave money to.

We used what you'd call a backyard breeder. She only breeds her dogs; they live in the house with her, and she socializes the puppies with her kids and grandkids. They came with AKC paperwork as well as several vet visits and shots. Not all are bad. I still keep in touch with her regularly and she always anwsers any questions I have or when I need advice.

.

No they don’t, the housecleaner vacuums.

The -mom- is the only parent who listens to the kids begging for a dog and thinks “ew Dog hair everywhere.” The dad”s brain doesn’t go there when the whining starts.

The Ew part is why everyone now ends up with a compromise doodle dog instead of the purebred Golden or Cavalier or Lab

No one wants a dog from the wrong side of the tracks.
