1% Fed Pay Raise

Not to burst the bubble here, but That only kicks in if Congress doesn’t act.

Congress can still pass a 0% raise for FY 2026.

Also, under Obama, we had three or four years straight of 0% raises.

Obama froze federal salaries for many years. Once he was out federal workers finally got raises.

I was not a fed during the Obama years. Why did he freeze pay raises for feds like what was the context?

It was in the wake of the global financial crisis. A 0% increase in 2011-2013 and then 1% raises in 2014-2017.

Seems unlikely congress will override Trump’s wishes

Context is that he wanted to so desperately work across the isle with Republicans that he gave into their demands to limit spending levels, and budgets across the government. That was the era of furloughs, and it was all for nothing because in the end the Republicans always blow up the deficit!

Now all you hear from Feds about that time is a lack of context and nuance, and only repeat the talking points to remind folks how bad it was under Obama.

The pay cap will also increase by 1% if the pay plan goes through. The cap is tied to the non-locality portion of the raise; because the 1% has no locality portion, the cap would increase by 1%, rounded to the nearest $100. If my math is right, that means the cap will be $197,200 next year (unless congress says different).

Perhaps. But it is not final, so it is premature to count on it.

I don’t think the congressional republicans will go against him on this.

yes, it was "you may suffer, but that's a sacrifice I am willing to take" approach.

Except we didn't have inflation then.

Inflation is around 2 right now. What was it then? Hard to imagine less than 2 for multiple years

It was also after the Great Recession and we had budget issues due to recession impact. None of those challenges currently exist except the self inflicted ones.
