So elegantly put! |
It's fun. It's educational. Theater nerds love to see the emergence of new musical theater authoring talent such as Lin Manuel Miranda. Artists in the field are relatively scarce since it's a bit of an older art form. It's interesting and praiseworthy that Hamilton has a diverse cast. I am white but I realize that it's unfair that white people get such a big share of all the lead roles, high-paying roles, juicy parts, etc. Minorities also would like a crack at lead roles. Then there's the appeal to those interested in history and politics. It was hilarious to see that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went to it (particularly because it mocks his relative). I've seen a ton of musicals. It has a relatable plot for Type A people who overwork, irritate others, and risk falling from grace. I liked it much better than Wicked and Phantom (both of those were emotionally overwrought simply for spectacle). It's far from perfect but it deserves its hype because it is popular with a wide range of people who enjoy the music and the many references to classic hip hop and rap. It's far more interesting than the totally WASPY founding father musical "1776". I can't remember anything from that except a pastiche of the usual founding fathers standing in a Colonial room. |
Sure, dress up…. If you’re 12. |
Curious about this as well? |
Thanks for the info!
I will take my teen. We love the soundtrack and have watched the play on YouTube. We don’t have Disney+ |
It was fun to see on the big screen but would have been 10M times better if marketed as a singalong. ![]() |
