Parents Paying for College is Real Reason College Has Become Unaffordable for Many

Loans are definitely part of today’s problem but parents paying for ADULT children (18+) is part of the equation none of you are willing to accept is parents paying. Take away the loans fewer students attend and costs fall. Parents paying and costs fall further and puts the burden back where it belongs on the students.

The cost of living - room and board - is currently around 20k per year at most 4-year universities. Students cannot afford 20k per year through a combination of work and loans. 15k would be a stretch. 10k more reasonable.

That doesn't even touch TUITION.

You want students to pay their own way? They can, by living at home and attend community college. Still, gas/car insurance/food make it tight.

+2. What school did you graduate from, OP? The real solution is schools like yours need to close, because they are taking money and graduating students without teaching them anything. You would have been better off learning a trade.

Higher education inflation has FAR exceeded overall inflation over the last 35 years so that it's simply no longer possible for a student to pay for even in-state tuition, room and board at most public universities through summer jobs, work-study, and small loans. So if a kid doesn't get family help, a big loan,or a sizable merit scholarship, they are basically limited to community college no matter how industrious they are.
