Why is it so hard to find a spay and neuter clinic?

Long wait is normal for low cost spay/neuter clinics. Just get in line and wait, it's not an emergency procedure.

We don’t need low cost, just a place that does them day in and day out

It's a packaged deal - vets that do spay/neuter day in and day out tends to be in low cost clinics. You mentioned some around you have income limit - did you check if they have sliding scale fees that you can pay if your income is above the states limit?

There are places that do it at full cost day in and day out and only S/N (maybe microchip). But I had to wait 30 days and we were just very careful to not accidentally let her out unaccompanied.

We used SpayNow in Columbia. The vet quoted $800 and I paid $80 to have a kitten spayed. I wish there were a middle ground but $800 is insane.

Yes I’m on a wait list for a place that will charge 350 dollars. The price is fine, but the earliest appt is in January

Well, because they do many many many more of these procedures. It makes sense

You must one of those people who don't understand math.

Anonymous wrote:Have you just googled? This is what I did, and I found multiple spay and neuter clinics in my location, and yes, they do book months out, which is normal. My dog was seen rapidly because it was a medical emergency: he was sick with an enlarged prostate and neutering is the first surgical act that's recommended. But otherwise I would have waited patiently.

Is there a reason why you need the neuter immediately, like needing to board your dog? There are multiple sitters on Rover who are fine with an intact male or female. There's a box to check for it.

And yes, for best results, you should definitely stick to a surgeon who only does spays and neuters, day in, day out.

Yea, Ive googled. I’ve found many places that seem to spay cats. Only a few who do dogs and they’re all impossible to get appts with.

There’s no rush exactly but she’s had one heat, and I’d like to avoid another. I also don’t want her to get pregnant obviously.

800 to spay a cat? Crazy

It's not hard to find a spay and neuter clinic. At all. It can be hard to find a cheap one that can see you this week though. Take a number and get in line, OP.
.

The wait at one place I found was 3 years. And as I mentioned, I don’t need cheap. I need a place that does them day in and day out.

They are. In surgery, motor hand and eye coordination counts for a lot in the outcome. If you do exactly the same procedure all the time, your skill level for that procedure will be absolutely unmatched. It works for human surgeries as well. You actually DO want someone who does the same surgeries all the damn time. Bedside manner for surgery is not important at all - you're out like a light anyway, or your dog is. No surgeons and team are going to be cruel to your animal - that's not why they're in this business, PP! They're going to give your dog/cat the best care, because the best care means a clean and precise act done in the shortest amount of time to minimize anesthesia risks, all because they know exactly what to do.

You need to understand what's important here. "Personalized attention and care" doesn't mean what you think it means when it comes to surgery.

Op thank you, exactly.

Then you're not looking hard enough. You say you're not in DC, so where are you? Because I've checked humane societies and regional shelters in multiple states and the longest wait I've come up with is 10 days from today. So if you genuinely started at the end of August, you're doing something goofy af.

Stop shitposting and give us relevant information (dog's age, breed, your location) so smarter people can help you get this sorted.

FWIW-

I adopted my cat, maybe a 6 month old kitten, as a rescue. She had been recently spayed at a spay/neuter clinic.

Her incision was infected, and it cost me about $500 to treat it. I could have taken her to the spay clinic for free treatment, but it was pretty far away.

You never know. In any case, she's a delightful and healthy 5 year old now.

Stop cursing and calling names. It’s trashy. And you may get banned if you keep it up.

Where did you search? The humane societies where I live wrote back and said no. As I mentioned, I’m on a wait list or two, and each say they’ll check in in a few months.
