CNN Rick Sanchez fired

I think killing that man was worse. His career somehow survived that.

Don't think it was only calling Stewart a bigot that got him canned:

"I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah"

Good riddance!

Maybe in context it was offensive, but I'm not sure what is wrong with the above quote. Jews statistically are overrepresented in media and entertainment, when you consider that they are a tiny minority in the population overall. African-Americans and Hispanics are statistically underrepresented. And I do think calling Jews an oppressed minority in the United States stretches the meaning of the word oppressed a little. I would view signs of oppression as: lower life expectancies, lower than average wealth, higher rates of poverty, underrepresented in high paying professions, etc, all of which apply to some minorities, but not American Jews. I'm part Jewish, and have never felt oppressed. Not saying anti-semitism does not exist, but that is different than oppression.

That's because stereotypes are often based on some actual general observation. The problem is that it classifies different people of the same group similarly.

Part of the problem is his turn of phrase. Jews don't go around saying they are an oppressed minority. This is a way that conservatives can discredit anti-semitism by relabeling it as "oppression" and then mocking the idea. If you don't believe me, google "jews oppressed minority U.S." and see how many Jews are using the term vs. conservative bloggers, pundits, and general rabble.

He used crude words to describe a complex situation -- Jews as a financially successful but historically oppressed minority. As a black person I do think that calling someone a "bigot" is pretty inflammatory. I mean, you're putting them in KKK company, and should tread very very carefully.

I listened to part of the show on Youtube. He used the word "bigot" in place of where "slanted" or "opinionated" should have been. That was stupid. I agree that Stewart's liberal opinion can be seen in the news, but it is not hard to sift through fact, opinion and downright bullshit on that show.

He was ranting the Stewart is a bigot for only having people on the show that agree with him. Anyone that watches the show, knows that is inaccurate. If he only wanted those of liberal persuasion there, I wonder why he had McCain's daughter, Bill O'Reilly and other such guests recently. Sanchez said that Beck and others could be considered predjudiced, too. He said everyone is not getting a fair picture of the news if they only watch news that supports their beliefs. That's true, but polls showed Daily Show watchers get news from other sources and were well informed on matters of politics. You have to have the base knowledge to get the satire.

Sanchez can blame whomever he wants. It was his dumbass remark that cost him his job.

Oh, go organize a Tea Party rally or something.

OP,
He made more than that point. He call John Stewart a bigot, asserted that Jews controlled the media and CNN, the hand that fed him. He's a nut job! Do you research before coming to any conclusions.
