Other than jarred baby food, most restaurants would prefer that you not bring your own food.

Cafe Deluxe. PP who asked for food without paying is nuts.

I have never had a problem bringing my own food or drink to anywhere for a very young child. He was only on jarred food for 2 months till I learned to make my own. I offered to pay when I went to Cafe Deluxe, but didn't want a kids meal with noodles, cheese, milk as my son was just starting solids and he can't eat all that and he loves just noodles and veggies. Nor, did I want to pay $6 for a kids meal of a huge bowl of noodles we'd throw out as that is a huge waste. So, if they don't want you bringing food and don't have food for little ones, what can you do. We've been to some places, like a Kabob place that gave us free rice pudding for our son without asking as he was thrilled to see our son eating the veggie kabobs and we have been long time customers.

Today we went to PF Chang's and they had an infant portion of steamed veggies and rice and it was the best for $3 - perfectly reasonable and the veggies were steamed to where an infant could eat them and the carrots were sliced very nice and thin. They are the only restaurant that we've been to that don't just have chicken nuggets/some nasty kids meal and an healthy/appropriate meal for a little one. Our son likes to eat what we eat - we don't eat that, but we ate really spicy food and he isn't ready for that either.

Noodles & Company at Montgomery Mall is also very nice. They will either separate a small portion of mine without sauce or give my son a tiny bowl of noodles so he can have it plain.

22:05 it's just ridiculous that you want them to give you stuff without paying.

HUH, no one ever said I didn't want to pay, but I am not paying $6-8 for a child's meal for a one year old who eats a handful of food. A few dollars ok, or just separate it off my meal with no seasoning as he can't have spicy food due to his reflux. Nor, do I want him having food off the kids menu's as they are very unhealthy - everywhere we go where they don't give you a menu first offer you chicken nuggets and french fries... humm... NO... he eats healthy, normal food, not junk food. Why can't places offer smaller portions of their normal food as my son will eat it as he wants to eat what we eat as that is normal and be more child friendly if they want the families. Maybe chicken nuggets and french fries is ok for your 12 month old, but not in my home!

Why can't you just order carefully and share your meal with your son?

I normally do share a meal with my son but sometimes there isn't something specific I can order he can eat!! 99% of the time we do. But, if all they have is sandwiches that are veggie for lunch with cheese and tomato and he can't eat tomato, then that's not much of a lunch (or dinner)!

It's okay. An occasional cheese sandwich lunch won't ruin him.

I don't love Cheesecake Factory, but they're very kid-friendly - the servers almost always offer to bring a plate of bread and bananas when I've been there with my toddler. She's young enough that we've just recently started ordering from the kids' menu when we're out - it's easier and cheaper to just order something for myself and share with her. I've also had luck ordering from side dish menus rather than kids' menus.

He can't eat the hard toasted/grilled bread - he's 12 months and just getting his teeth in (and he very much couldn't do it at 10-12 months when he was on solids and loves to eat so why not encourage it) ... he eats cheese sandwiches all the time as right now he's vegetarian. You missed the point.

Given that you didn't include the point, that's hardly surprising.

As OP asked for a restaurant with good food, I'm not going to suggest Cafe Deluxe. I think the food is horrible. I last went about a year ago and for each plate I thought I could do it so much better. We will never go back!

I think Mon Ami Gabi is quite good. And the new mussel bar even offered up some kid's food (a pizza) which was awesome. And the food for adults is awesome.

I agree that eating out does not always afford the most nutritious food for kids, but that isn't what I expect when we go out. I brought food for my kids until they were 18 months or so to avoid the issues raised by PP. But I am very uncomfortable asking for something for free.

yes, but Cafe Deluxe has a kids menu with several choices for like $6, as well as a number of sides for about the same.

My 3y still doesn't finish a whole kids meal. We box it up and take it home. I never thought about asking for half a kids meal at half the price.
