The healthiest option I can think of is Butler's soy curls.
Aside from that, there really aren’t any healthy options. If you eat meat or fish, maybe a steamed/cooked piece without salt or oil between bread. I love the Tofurky slices, but I’d hesitate to call them healthy. Healthier, maybe. Avocado toast? |
How else can she virtue signal if she doesn’t mention this? |
| I hate liberal Karens. |
| What about a mashed bean filling? Cannellini beans mashed on a baguette with some thyme or rosemary and crispy pepper slice |
| When you don't have time to roast or poach your own meat, Trader Joe's has those packs of cooked meat, like just chicken pieces or just turkey breast slices. The pieces are thick, though, not deli thin, so that might be a deal breaker if your kids are picky. They are sometimes in odd places in the Trader Joe's not always next to the deli meat so you may need to ask. |
Get in the kitchen and cook some. That's the only way. |

I have a similar issue. I prepped DS and said we are not doing deli meat this year, expect rare occasions. We are a couple weeks into school and rotisserie chicken has been working well. I buy that, lettuce, tortillas, and Caesar dressing and make a chicken Caesar wrap. It has been a hit.
I know this isn’t meat related but the other hit has been fried rice. We eat rice 1x a week, I make extra and turn it into egg fried rice for lunch the next day. |

| Lunch meats are never healthy. Now, you could cook some chicken breast or thighs and cut that up for a sandwich, or cook some roast beef or steak and that would be better. Store bought lunch meats are packed with sodium and preservatives. |
| You should tell your kids no pepperonis |
She clearly included that info to put to rest up front likely accusations that she’s an alt health freak just for asking the question. We all know DCUM will take every opportunity to critique rather than answer a simple question. |

My kid does Italian meat probably once a week, turkey once a week and random other stuff he other days.
I just can’t believe all the hysteria about cured meats. I’m from an Italian family. I ate salami literally every day for my entire childhood. I’m in my 50s and perfectly healthy. My Sicilian dad lived to be 96 despite very regular consumption of salami annd other cured meats. Italians eat a ton of cured meats and don’t have noticeably lower mortality. I’ve read all the studies but I just can’t get that hyped about that. I do often buy the nitrate free. But if your kid likes pepperoni and you’re trying to avoid it, maybe experiment with spices or mustards you can add to sliced chicken or turkey. Although for me, the texture of thin sliced poultry is nauseating. |
| There are no healthy lunch meats. That’s not a thing. |
Oh, well if you eat lots of lunch meat and haven’t personally gotten colon cancer yet, then the studies must be wrong. |
. Beans and bread don't go together. Put your mashed beans on a tortilla. |
