Do people steal strollers?

i left my mclaren strolled on the front porch overnight for three years. decided that the liklihood of it being stolen was pretty low (looked pretty scruffy) and the tradoff of keeping it my living room (no entranceway in my house) wasn't worth it!

A friend had a stroller stolen at Disney. I can't remember the brand, but it was a more expensive one, but not Bugaboo or anything. The odd part was that it was very well used and as she put it "pretty grubby" so I can't imagine why someone would have stolen it. It was also personalized enough that if it had been taken by mistake, the person would have realized it soon enough, but it was never turned in to lost and found.

I have a Peg Preggo and I've left it at the entrance to resteraunts all over DC - so far, it's still there. (Knock on wood)

Aside from the resale value, strollers of any price point are attractive to homeless and near-homeless people. So if you live in a zip code with a fair number of street people (Adams Morgan vs. Cabin John), I might consider at least a simple chain bike lock.

Funny story: we were in NYC and had to leave our crummy 4 year old hand-me-down maclaren techno outside the restaurant and DH asked me, "do you think it will be safe out here?" I pointed out all the $500-1,000 strollers lined up outside the joint and said, "um, yeah, I think our stroller will be just fine."

>>> 14:02, meant to add that we used to live in Seattle, which has a huge population of street people and street kids. It was not uncommon to see them pushing around their sleeping bag, etc. in a Maclaren. I've also see here in DC, on about 7th and Mass, the same except the woman had a navy blue Bugaboo.

I'm always shocked that people leave personal items: diaper bags, purses, iPhones, etc. in obvious, exposed places on/in the strollers around the zoo buildings, at carousels/trains, or other places where strollers aren't allowed. They certainly wouldn't leave a purse on a sidewalk by itself while they walked into a building, why would they think that it's okay to leave it there attached to a stroller?

They sell a stroller lock at One Step Ahead:

It's not a bad idea to spend $20 for one if your stroller is worth more than that (as most strollers in DC are!) and if you're going to leave it on your porch or at the zoo.... and don't forget to take your valuables WITH you!

Strollers get stollen from porches and cars in my DC neighborhood.

My Mclaren was stolen right out of my front yard.

Personally, even though we don't have an overly expensive stroller, I refuse to check or let a desk keep it while dining and just say I need it - we have a Quinny Zapp and it can be folded down to nothing. Why take the chance? When we travel, we take or cheap jogger I got on clearance so if it gets stollen I don't care. Not worth worrying about, but why take chances either. I never found the appeal in an $$$ stroller - better to save the money and put it in a college fund.

We live in Dupont and accidently left our double mclaren outdside in back overnight. In the morning it was gone . I think it all depends on the neighborhood...

I've left the stroller sitting outside overnight, sitting in the car, as well as parked outside of buildings at the zoo or restaurants and haven't had a problem.

Of course, I always remove personal items from it. And our single is a 3 year old Britax stroller, and the double is a used Peg Perego Aria. Not exactly $500-600 strollers.

I have a bugaboo cameleon, so yes a high ticket item. I was very concerned the first year when leaving it places like outside the small mammal house at the zoo. So far no problems though and I see a lot of other strollers that are 500 plus out there too.

Our Maclaren got stolen from outside the Rockledge Medical Buildings in Bethesda a couple of years ago.

I used to live in a large city and from time to time would hear about Bugaboos being stolen from the park. I have never heard of run-of-the-mill strollers being stolen, although I'm sure that happens too.
