How do kids get matched with LLC’s at UMD?

Was able to knock out a couple of Gen Eds. Two years later still good friends with quite a few of them. Doesn’t regret participating. Just wasn't for him.

It seems pretty common that students withdraw before completing the program. Would love to see stats on this.

This is true. My son (in MD) got Honors, some of his friends (in MD) got Scholars, and my friend's daughter (OOS) got FIRE. These students are all HS class of 2025.

For in-state, they seem to choose those performing at high academic levels (GPA) who also have high test scores.

Yes, my impression is that test scores weigh heavily. I noticed overlap between US Presidential Scholar candidates (including my DC) and Honors College offers. Plus high weighted GPAs.

I believe all Banneker Key kids are Honors.

They also get their first choice of LLCs. My kid chose Desigb Creative Community (blanking on exact name). Had to write an essay explaining why. DC had plenty of experience in the arts in HS, which he highlighted in essay.

Great dorms.

No one knows the criteria for Banneker selection either.

OP, I am asking about how they decide whether a kid who is in honors ends ups in a specific LLC. How did that happen to yours?

I misunderstood. He had to rank his choices for LLP (living learning program) for Honors. He got his first choice. There are 8 programs in all: https://honors.umd.edu/living-learning-programs/programs-at-a-glance/

After accepting the Honors College invitation, if he didn't rank or was late in submitting, he would have been assigned to University Honors (~450 students).
