Weekend only jobs for 18 year old HS senior

Can he referee a sport with one of the local rec leagues (BRYC, SYC, FPYC, ABGC, I9, there's a ton around here) - kids' Sat soccer games, for example.

Employers want FULL availability, even if they only schedule you a few hours a week.
Also, they don't want to mess with age restrictions--so not only the hours, but working with certain machinery, not being able to serve alcohol (like with the catering) etc.
Most teens I know with jobs were able to get them because they personally know the manager/owner.

100%. Not looking for anecdotes. LOL.

I have a kid in college now and I've never seen a "weekend only job". I wish.

It's really hard to find a decent job as an 18yr. old in high school. My Senior works at the Movie theater and it is weekends but he's also required to be available weeknights (so far he'll do one week day, unfortunately it's from 5pm to closing at midnight).

My oldest, in College worked at a restaurant weekends but had to work two nights per week, 4-11pm. He did it for a while but it was really hard weekdays.

Even working at the mall requires weekday hours and the pay is terrible.

My oldest did groceries but the pay was minimum and they still required weekdays availability.

Target was better pay, but they complain when he was not available weekdays and some weekends (family events). So he only lasted 3 months and was let go....

The detailing job is a thing- but only good for the summer...also, it is really hard to get returning costumers. People normally do detailing to their vehicles once per year or so.

My only suggestion if he wants to be around cars, would be to ask body shops around..... Don't do moms & pops because they do not have the extra money to pay some kid they don't know.
He can go around bigger shops to see if they take him, but I doubt without knowing someone there already.

Good luck. It's tough out there.

Both of my boys did soccer refereeing. Weekend job only. It actually is pretty good pay if you do Travel sports.

35hr. side ref.
$70 for center ref.

Yep, my nephew refereered soccer too. Basketball also has teen refs if your kid is looking for a job over the winter.
