Infertility Support and Discussion
| When I mc at 7w and they tested the tissue the report said that one if the tests could not be done bc cells disnt grow. It Only showed that the embryo was normal for the xy chromosome, and then 21 18 13 and a couple more. So they could have missed something. I think the test they couldn't do was Fish or smthg like that? |

This OP again...thank you all for your input. I do realize that karyotyping is done outside of the clinic. My frustration is that CFA didn't think it was necessary to karyotype both me and my husband given the fact they couldn't figure out why I was miscarrying.
I do understand also that the inversion doesn't always have to play a role in the MC. Some can be benign and the fetus turn into a healthy baby then adult. The way it was explained was that it just depends. Dr. D. did say this is pretty new technology that is being discussed among RE's and genetics professionals that perform PGD. The goal is to see a genetist...but I don't think there is anything that can be done either way. Bottom line I know I shouldn’t have been on injections all those months and ultimately don’t feel that I got the treatment I needed to give me a full picture of what we were dealing with. Two additional examples…I asked for blood clot testing before the second miscarriage and I was told “we don’t believe in that here” by the Dr. I also asked for AMH testing and anteral follicle count to determine if in fact I really had diminished ovarian reserve and I was told “we don’t do the AMH test here…it doesn’t give valid information.” He said that day 3 estrogen was enough to tell. The nurse ended up letting me test, but we didn’t tell the Dr. BTW, AMH testing came back normal. I know sometimes there can be multiple reasons for miscarriage or no reason at all…all very frustrating. But my biggest concern is that CFA doesn’t seem to be willing to use the most recent research when diagnosing and counseling their patients. As I said, this was my experience…I’m certain there are some very happy CFA parents out there. |
You are just talking about one Dr. at CFA, they don't all feel the same way. More to the point, especially when dealing with unknown causes, everyone should get a second opinion. I went to three different practices before I selected which one we were going to use for treatment. |
| i'm one of the PP's that posted about genetics stuff: I think you can't get mad that they didn't karyotype you and your husband. If the fetus was normal, then there is no medical indication to karyotype you and your husband. If you are looking for a geneticist/genetic counselor some places to go are Genetics and IVF, Greater Washington Maternal Fetal Medicine, Georgetown, GW, Maryland Perinatal Associates, Susan Black at Washington Hospital Center. |
