Has your derm said it could be basal cell? I have a couple spots that look like pimples that won't go away and my derm says they are just some kind of enlarged gland or something. Not even something worth doing a biopsy. The spot she did take from a potential BCC wasn't even on my radar. It's likely nothing. Mine do look like little whiteheads though and are not red. |
| I have had about half a dozen removed. Usually Mohs is only used if it's on your face or some other highly visible place. Basal cell sarcoma happens when cells at the basal level, i.e., the innermost level of skin get damaged and push their way up to the surface. I have had Mohs but that was for squamous which, if caught early, isn't a big deal either. |
This. Seriously. They will freeze it off. I probably get 5-10 a year. Plus 1-3 squamous. They won’t do mos for basal. It’s a surface cancer and kid would be overly aggressive (and expensive). I’ve had basal surgically removed but only after at least 2 attempts of freezing it off. Truly, op. Basal is extremely common. |
OP here. No I haven't been to derm yet. I was just wondering if it could be. Thanks for sharing your experience. When I first noticed this pimple, I thought it was under skin and could be hormonal. I'll have them check it out this week. |
Thanks for sharing! It would be great to have this removed this week quick and easy as possible! Of course I'm scared because it's on my face, but I have noticed I don't even notice it when I smile. |

OP where is it?
I have the worst skin ever. I go in every 3 months and usually have 2-3 biopsies of something suspicious. I just went in because I had a new growth on my leg (problem area for me along with face and shoulders) which was like a pimple and wouldn't go away. Doc did an immediate biopsy. Concerned her too. It was some weirdo psoriasis spot which I have never had before. And only one spot! BCC are really nothing. Due to my history I do go back to a plastic surgeon for wider margins on my bad ones. |
I haven't been diagnosed. But I doubt it was caused by using sunscreen. |
PP here. Most likely they will freeze it and see what happens. FTR if they do freeze and it is on your nose -- OMG, worst brain freeze ever. Just for a minute but heads up! |
Oh man I can imagine! Luckily it's on the cheek and not the nose. |
OP here, it's on my cheek. I usually have good skin, and rarely pimples. I had one for very long time when I was pregnant with my first kiddo. It must have been hormonal. That one was on my forehead, and eventually went away on it's own. Would you recommend I see plastic surgeon if it's BCC? Derm has good reviews, and I'm sure they do a lot of those. |

Good luck, OP! I hope it’s not serious.
As I understand it, BCC is the least dangerous of the skin cancers. I’ve had BCC and squamous cell. One was removed in the biopsy and the other was by Mohs surgery. Both were easy and I can barely find the scars anymore. A P.A. said to use a silicone product ( tape or liquid) to reduce the scarring. |
| I have had basal cell twice. One was removed by Mohs and one was frozen off. That one was smaller, maybe that’s why? They both looked like scaly flaky patches - sort of like a scrape that wouldn’t heal. |
If you have Mohs, they remove the lesion and do a biopsy. Time "in the chair" depends on how many times it takes to get clear edges. I think it took 3 times for me. My memory is being in the chair for about an hour. |
