Not necessarily a bad idea. A couple of factors:

1. Are you happy to work for a long time, or do you dream of retiring early?
2. Why do you want/need a $700k house? If you’re alone, wouldn’t a smaller place make sense? What is your salary?
3. How secure is this job? What are the chances of being laid off agin? Mightn’t it be better to wait a few more months to ensure that it is secure?
