Countertops that are not quartz, marble, quartzite, wood, or stainless steel

We have a marble-look Corian and plan to keep it forever. I like that it has a warmer feel and is not cold and hard like stone. Easy maintenance and I think it’s even repairable.

Corian.

Though it is plastic, which you said you’re not into.

Tile is an especially ugly choice.

Porcelain. But I also do not understand why not quartzite. There are so many options. Hard to believe you would not like any of them.

Why don’t you like Quartzite? I’m in the same phase of the process and everything is see is super beautiful and cool

I think the concern about most marble is overblown. Yes, it etches. But the etches don’t accumulate, because each one wears out pretty quickly. We had marble for years and I learned pretty quickly not to take any one etch too seriously. If you need it picture perfect at every moment, I guess marble’s not the one. But every individual etch disappears, and god it’s so beautiful.

That said, we are redoing kitchen and going with quartz, because marble was nearly 4x the price.

I have light granite. Can’t remember the type but just go to a granite place and look around. Or even go to Home Depot. Lots of light options. Indestructible.

We have soapstone in our bathroom and really like it, but maintaining it in a kitchen would drive me crazy.

Surprised this hasn't made a comeback yet. If they charged $100 a square foot for it, everyone would have to have it.

Where do people buy the nice formica? I would like to get one but not the one that imitates marble and find it hard to find suppliers. We are only trying to redo countertops/backsplash/sink, and not everything.

Try HD and box stores, or online places like Amazon, if you can get Amazon to let you sign in anymore, as they are having tons of security issues lately.

Yes, we got laminate countertops from Home Depot 20 years ago. It still looks exactly like it did the day we put it in. And not nearly as dated since it was never in style. We would have bought that black granite if we had chosen something then, but i'm very glad we didn't.

What’s the issue with Quartz?

Anonymous wrote:Redoing our kitchen. We usually try to shop ethically. We’re not perfect but we avoid plastics, politically questionable companies and so on. Countertops seem to be dominated by quartz which apparently is giving all the workers silicosis. We would do granite or soapstone but those are too dark. Marble is so sensitive. Don’t like quartzite, wood or stainless steel. Any other options?

LAMINATE!

Quartz contains resin and also its production causes silicosis. I feel it’s like the next asbestos.

Team granite, plenty of lighter options. Go to the granite yard and you'll see. Ours is 20+ years old and still looks great
