LMC travel lol

Nawlins can be quite luxe.
Smokies are lovely but those cabins I confess were our family's LMC dream when I was a kid. Big Lynn Lodge was still around hosting boomers on motorcycles last time I googled.

Free breakfasts are an obsession on Trip Advisor.

LC? Is the author tripping? These are MC vacations. And national parks? That has nothing to do with class. What a toll.

You sound like you are 12. Are you ok?

+1.

In their rush to judgment, they completely ignored the article. Or they have very low reading comprehension.

The article was sweet. I haven’t been to New Orleans but saved their tips on my travel planning spreadsheet.

My family makes 300k, and we live around people who make more than us, and places like the Outer Banks, Niagara Falls, cabins in the mountain, etc. are normal MC to UMC destinations. Now I’m sure at a higher income the house rental gets a bit nicer or you’re staying on property at Disney vs. a cheaper offsite hotel. But I still don’t think that is LMC.

I think LMC is a cross country road trip to see family or an overnight trip to somewhere with a Six Flags. And FWIW I would never laugh at this. I think it’s great when families try to use the resources they have to travel even it’s not fancy.

The article says these are places that LMC people dream of going. Not where they can afford to go.

Has anyone ever actually done these trips?

Sure, Myrtle and OBX aren’t luxurious and a family can swing a week at the beach at a reasonable price—particularly if you eat most meals at home. Ditto for hunkering down at a cabin in the Smokies.

But have you priced out tickets to Dollywood, Anakeesta, Ober Mountain, or any of the dozens of other attractions in the Smokies? It’s get pricey rather quickly.

Disney is obviously very, very expensive. Technically, I don’t think a truly LMC family can afford Disney…or NYC for that matter. Hotels and parking in NYC are quite costly and Broadway tix for a family of four are expensive. Add on meals and activities and I don’t see how any LMC family can afford it.

I’ve been to most of the places on the list. Nearly $400k HHI. We love the Caribbean as much as we love the Mediterranean and other beaches further afield. We love American cities as much as European cities. And we’ve had a blast at Disney, Dollywood, Hershey, etc.

FTR, Cozumel can be a lovely day as a cruise port. There are small and large beach clubs with different vibes.

And cruises can be affordable fun for families, but they can also be quite pricey. Depends on the ship, itinerary, etc. Imho they are the easiest and most relaxing vacations.

Same. I’ve done 8 of these trips. HHI is 400K.

I’ve also traveled to 6 continents, ( lived on 4 ) and stayed in multiple 5 star resorts across the globe.

People like OP are so funny, especially when they make comments like this in real life. A true revelation of character.

Ridiculous.

I grew up LMC. We could not afford most of those vacations.

+1. It does come across as mean. Like ha ha, can you believe this anyone’s dream vacation? Those silly LMC people! What some people—including the author of the article-fail to mention; it’s not just about money, it’s time. Many people have no time off/paid time off.

That’s what makes them dream vacations.

My dream vacations are the Greek Isles and the Norwegian Fjords. The vacations in my budget are camping or a weekend in cramped condo with other relatives on the DelMarVa.

They think LMC people can afford to fly to Portugal??

This conversation makes me glad that what other people think of my family’s travel choices has zero to do with where we go and how much we enjoy it.
