Please hold spring break in April annually starting in 2027 no matter when Easter occurs

It should not be tied to Easter. I’d rather be home for Easter and I bet many Jews would also prefer to be home for Passover.

Completely agree. But it doesn't matter what people want - it will always be around Easter because Good Friday and Easter Monday are mandatory days off.

I know you're being sarcastic but they should at least make a separate spring break in 2027 an option.

You do realize only ONE day is being saved not two so this isn't a big deal unless a gazillion other days are off like 2025-26.

We are a state founded by Catholics! Have some respect for history.
State law only requires those days to be off. It doesn't require spring break to be then too.

It's never late April but early to mid-April. March can still be winter weather even when it's technically spring. Now in the south most places have spring break in March (Georgia does the 1st full week of April) but school ends in May. The problem is that there usually isn't any 4+ day weekend from January-June except for Easter weekend.
Spring break in March means almost 3 months after the break. Spring break in April means three months or longer without anything above 3-day weekends in January-March unless Easter is in March and spring break were held in April.

Minimizing interruptions is key. A single 8 day break for Spring Break + Easter is less disruptive than a 5 day break for Spring Break followed at some point by a four day weekend for Easter.

Are you ES, MS or HS teacher? Going three months late in the year without a break longer than a 3-day weekend is difficult due to burnout. Don't you feel burnout in June when it's early and in late March/early April when it's late.

In 2026 Easter two weeks earlier than 2025 but MoCo and PGCo still chose the week before Easter as spring break. In 2027 Easter is SUPER early so the break should not be the week before Easter. The best thing would be to hold the break either April 5-9 or April 12-16 as long as there is at least 1 fewer holiday off in 2026-27 than 2025-26 to offset the extra day needed by not bordering Easter.
Spring break should NOT be held before the 3rd quarter is over! This post is being made because some DC teachers that live in MoCo or PGCo inflated the responses on to hold spring break based on MoCo and PGC so DC which usually holds spring break in April randomly put it on MARCH 22-26, 2027 despite that MoCo and PGCo have yet to post a 2026-27 calendar.
All three districts MoCo, PGCo and DC need to agree to hold spring break 2027 in the 1st or 2nd full week of April AFTER all 3 have ended the 3rd quarter.

This is one of the dumber proposals I've seen on DCUM. The only saving grace here is that it's very much dead on arrival.

Now now This is one of the BEST proposals! Spring break should be at a similar time ever year. If Easter were at the same time every year, the school year could be timed to have 3rd quarter end right before Easter but since it's not then spring break should be secular based (e.g. end of 3rd quarter). The only exception is if Easter is ONE week before or after spring break then spring break would be delayed in order to prevent a long weekend and spring break from being so close together.

I'd rather at an off time as travel is cheaper and the later you go you hit ap tests and other things.

I miss teaching in WV where we had a 9 day break for Thanksgiving every year because it was the start of turkey hunting season

Many Jews vacation for Passover so that someone else does all of work of cleaning and preparing kosher for Passover meals. There are resorts that specialize in this.

Easter is not the same as passover and the number of Jews that go to Passover resorts is miniscule.

Strong disagree. Shorter disruptions are better.

The founders are all in heaven now. They don't need holidays.

MCPS effectively eliminated quarters with the new grading systems.

No they didn't - the two quarters are averaged under the new system. The books are not open continuously for the semester.

As someone who moved away while my kids were in preschool I'm glad we landed someplace where spring break is always the last week of March. Predictable and in the middle of the semester.
