Keep in mind that many European countries have VERY good medical care, so try not to worry so much. (I’m German, and have traveled to many countries. Look up the what the WHO thinks about medical care in other countries—I get that it’s frightening to be in a foreign country, American ERs/hospitals frighten my parents . )

What about them taking a fancy cruise to Europe. No flight, no blood clot, and doctors on board?

They may have good medical care but crap pain meds. My friend’s mom broke her wrist in Italy and was in a ton of pain. The hospital said they didn’t have any narcotic pain meds. Whatever they gave her didn’t touch the pain. My friend had to go across the city to get an Rx for something stronger. Ridiculous.

Make sure you have something that could also cover transporting their body back if they die during the trip.
