VERY basic light bulb question

I have an internal hallway with ceiling fixtures. When I bought some bulbs that claimed to replace 60 watt bulbs, I ended up with dim, yellowish almost brownish light. I have lamps in the bedroom that use 3-way bulbs, and large round globe bulbs around the vintage mirror in the bathrooms. My biggest issue at the moment though is the hallway. I used to just grab 4 packs of GE lightbulbs, and all was well. Now I have no idea what brands are reliable and which ones aren’t, or what really replaces the old regular 60 watt bulbs.

Please help. An Amazon or other link with specifics would be great. Thank you!
Yes, this is a real plea. The hallway really is that bad now.

I am in the same boat.

I keep hoping that Trump will do the one executive order almost everyone can get behind, almost as popular as the banning of paper straws, the return of incandescent lightbulbs.

A girl can dream.

It would really mess with me, but I would actually thank Trump for the return of incandescent lightbulbs and the easy availability of Coke made with cane sugar. Wince.

Heard about the Coke thing! That's awesome, though I'm not as big on Cokes as parents generation or cousins in old country.

Is this "coke" as in all sodas, or just Coca Cola? Or just Coca-Cola products and the sodas they control?

It's so hard to find real cane sugar in the USA, just the white bleached stuff, not the brown cane sugar like in other countries. Brown sugar is about the closest one can get here.

Sorry, why would you want incandescent bulbs? I get that people didn't like the fluorescent they were pitching 10-15 years ago, but LEDs are phenomenal. If you have an LED that doesn't look exactly like how you want it, you've got the wrong LED. And they last forever. And they use less energy.

Also, you can get cola with cane sugar—Mexican coke is sold at the Giant and Balducci's has a case full of hippy-dippy no-corn-syrup softdrinks.

DP, but bolded parts are laughable.
Also, around 15% of people give or take cannot handle the refresh rate of LED's and it makes them ill feeling, causes visual tracers and dots, affects hormones, etc.

LED's are not natural light from an incandescent source.

I mean, mine are rate for 10-20 years. And you can get them in literally any tone, warmth, color, etc.

And there's no evidence that 15 percent of people cannot handle the refresh rate of high quality LEDs. Stop.

Most don't last long, at least not as long as older USA made incandescent bulbs, which would average a longer lifespan than that. Many older light bulbs I have had in houses last over 30 years of daily use. LED's from China now might get 2-5 years max now.

Bolded part.
It has been part of the LED discussion for many decades. Learn more about it. Sounds like you are trying to spread misinformation, suppress other information, and push corporate propaganda.

Also, in addition to aforementioned health effects by around 15% of humans, there are negative health effects from LEDs for all humans, in regards to "blue light" and some UV radiation exposure to the eyes from them.

I’m guessing that it will be just for the Classic Coke — not all sodas or even all sodas made by the Coca Cola company. Cane sugar costs more, and it’s possible that younger customers — used to corn syrup— might not even like the taste.
Coke is made with cane sugar in Mexico and is sold in the US during Passover in a limited number of stores. They might just do a limited edition for Trump.

As to the real cane sugar, I buy turbinado sugar— easily found at Whole Foods and other stores. I’ve only used “brown” sugars for baking. I’m not sure what you’re looking for exactly, but try the turbinado sugar — which is light brown, supposedly minimally processed cane sugar.

Yeah, maybe you’re buying the wrong bulbs. The ones I have show no signs of faltering. Maybe be a little smarter with what you buy?

As for the health issues - I looked it up and everything out there says it’s a not well established issue and only a small number of people are affected. I’m not pushing anything that’s just what all the credible sources said.

Also that link from 2023 talks about light pollution in the night sky. There’s a bit about blue light but that’s not an issue with most led bulbs for household fixtures, and there was nothing about 15 percent.

Well, as my original post noted, I’m trying to find lightbulbs that are similar to the type of lighting that I’ve grown used to — using incandescent bulbs. So far I’ve been unsuccessful, so I’m asking for suggestions. I’m fine with using LED bulbs — and would appreciate any specific suggestions that you might have. The more specific the better.

Thanks for the heads up re: Giant and Balducci’s for the Mexican Coke! I’ll try a bigger suburban Giant. I have seen kosher for Passover Coke at the Giant I usually go to, but not the Mexican Coke. I’ll look harder, and also see if it’s something the smaller Giant can stock. (OP)

I can’t emphasize how helpful the people at ACE can be. Tell them what you want - describe the look, they’ve got something for you.

PP, I’m the OP — still following this thread. My original post was made in an effort to get suggestions about what some of the “right” bulbs might be. It’s hard to be “smarter” when I’m starting from scratch — and my first (easily available) choices have not been good ones. At the risk of being overly repetitive, if you have any “smarter” suggestions— about specific brands or even a link to an article, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks to all of you who have responded with useful information and great suggestions. I really do appreciate your help with this!

Great! I appreciate the suggestion! I’ll plan to go to an ACE this weekend.

Will do! Two separate posts suggesting ACE is enough to add a trip there to my To Do list. Fingers crossed. Thanks!

Also, you can get cola with cane sugar—Mexican coke is sold at the Giant and Balducci's has a case full of hippy-dippy no-corn-syrup softdrinks.

(OP)

I see Mexican coke all the time, not just during Passover.

My anecdata about LED longevity:

In 2014 I went all-in and replaced every light bulb in the house with LED bulbs. Recently, my 22-year-old son complained that a light in his room had stopped working. I told him he probably needed to change the bulb.

He did not know what those words meant.

Literally. I had to show him that the thing in the fixture that produces light unscrews and you can screw in a replacement. He had never needed to do it or seen it done.
