What should rising HS seniors be doing right now?

With regards to essay, I suggest your DC write it this summer. Our school had the same assignment in English class. But it was peer reviewed. DC did not want everyone seeing their essay. So wrote the real one over the summer, and the English class one, which went nowhere, in class. Also worked on some thoughts/drafts for supplementals over the summer. Very helpful bc Fall of senior year had very little spare time. Anything they can do in the summer relieves Fall pressures.

Write out the 10 activities (150 characters) and 5 honors.

Harder than you think.

My kid finally showed me the one he wrote in English class. It was a nice vacation memory, fine for an English essay- not a personal statement. It didn’t reveal much about him.

Mine is:

-working on AP summer assignments
-taking a few practice SATs for her last sitting in August
-deciding which schools she is applying ED/EA and which ones she will do later
-sketching out a few possible essay topics, but not getting too deep because her HS does this as the first major 12th grade assignment in all English classes

Should we be doing anything else? We asked teachers for LOR at the end of Jr. year.

how about, let your kid be a kid and enjoy the summer and earna few bucks with a real job?

Daughter is a rising senior. Last summer she prepped for the ACT and took it in September.

This summer she has an 8 week internship in a lab. She has compiled all parts of the common app and ready to cut and paste when it goes live. Personal essay done and ready for college advisor to review. Most supplementals done for early action schools. Resume done. Reaching out to a VIP of her top choice school to utilize that connection. Doing volunteer work and all the usual activities she has over the summer. The idea is to get as much done now so she can focus on good grades first quarter.

What part of this is your responsibility, OP? Who is the "we" you are referring to here?

Apply In-State school and save money for graduate school.
Take AP classes and be able to transfer for credits at University.
Take dual classes with local college and be able to transfer to University

She is doing both for sure. It is almost the end of July and we are just getting started on the above items. It's not like she was doing them all summer. And we still have another week of family vacation left.

My kid is working a part-time job, shadowing at a PT place, hanging out with friends, and working on her common app essay. Still needs to do her summer reading and brag sheets/etc for her recommenders.

College list made, ED school chosen, done with ACT.

Hopefully doing a job, internships, sports, etc.

Hanging out with boyfriend. Using protection while doing so.
