Abssolitely. Or house of seven gables. Or Moby Dick. |
Oh yes definitely misty of chingoteague for Maryland! (Or Delaware if it’s the Delaware side?) |
Poster who suggested Misty of Chincoteague Oops, looks like I goofed. Apparently Chincoteague is in Virginia. |
| All the King’s Men springs to mind for Louisiana. |
Yeah that’s a better book than confederacy of dunces. There’s so many good ones for Maine. Cider House Rules would be another good one. |
|
Demond copperhead would be another for Virginia. I guess there are a lot of Virginia options. The Known Workd is also incredible but I don’t think as famous.
I’m sort of surprised there aren’t better options for Maryland. I saw another list that had Kindred on it. |
| It’s set in many places but Roots has a major component in VA. |
| The Confessions of Nat Turner is set in VA. |
| Admittedly, I haven’t read the book selected for West Virginia, but “Rocket Boys” strikes me as maybe a better choice than a kids’ book to represent the state. |
| I read your title as “book set”. Like a book series favored in the state. Wrong lol. |
I would have chosen Kindred by Octavia Butler for Maryland. |
Alternatively, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansbury |
Beloved or the Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison set in Cincinnati would have been better picks. |
| In the Spirit of Crazy Horse for South Dakota and The Bridges of Madison County for Iowa is what I would pick for those states |
| I would’ve picked A Streetcar Named Desire for Louisiana (New Orleans) and of course Steinbeck for CA. Also, no Mark Twain? I guess it’s hard when you have two great writers to choose from for Mississippi. |
