Anybody notice that cashiers are no longer able to deal with cash?

I use cash every single time I go to Ute farmers market. So every week. And I use cash to do my laundry.

Farmers got that book learnin'.

A Global Digital Currency is coming. At first, it will be made law with the excuse, “Criminals are using cash for illegal purposes”. Then, once all currency is digital and everyone’s money is in a database, if the government determines you hold beliefs it does not like, a marker in the database will exclude you from being able to buy or sell, effectively removing you from society.

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:17)

The exact opposite is happening, in fact: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/07/17/gold-legal-tender/

I’m 47 so I’ve been using cash for a long time, but sometimes I get math anxiety around cash. I freeze up and struggle to do the math in my head. I just need a moment to think it through. And I took AP calculus in high school and honors math level in college. I was also in math competitions for fun in high school so I’m not bad at math per se but it takes me a moment to process. Please show some grace to your cashiers.

The real reason is that businesses are using cash to avoid taxes.

I can’t really blame them anymore. I mean, do you know how to use an abacus or a slide rule?

Credit card fees are pretty bad for low dollar transactions because they are structured to have a base fee plus a percentage of the total transaction price. That’s why some small businesses don’t take credit card for under a certain amount. It can eat their entire profit margin. I pay cash at the farmers market and corner store.

Trump is advocating for a bill that will require all bricks and mortar companies to accept usd cash.

To counter, old people like me in 2025 don't really understand the world of crypto, bitcoin, or etherium.

I'm 47 and my cursive is so rusty I'm unable to write anything other than my signature.

It's impacting their math skills.

Have your students learned cursive yet?

Nobody here goes to the nail salon? A bunch of them have signs about charging for the cc fee. All kinds of mom and pop places, immigrant-owned spots, farmer's markets, small transactions--I feel like a jerk for using a card for a $3 transaction.

And they have probably never actually handled cash in their own lived, like ever. The only bills my youngest has ever used are foreign currency when traveling for school. They can count and do multivariable calculus, but making change is a novelty.

That's rather progressive of him. Usually it is the lower income and cash-job-gig folks who only have cash for paying.

They don't need to. Just like we may have but didn't need to learn to use the abacus and inkwell calligraphy. The tools have changed again.
