Went darker, multiple people said I look younger

They are just being polite, OP.

I’m so tempted to go darker after seeing Drew Barrymore embrace brown hair. Whoever dyes her hair does an amazing job. It looks shiny and healthy on tv. But it looks scraggly IRL on her home videos (there’s one making the rounds on social media now in her nyc apt).

I don’t think people were necessarily just being polite and rolling their eyes behind their backs or whatever. If brown is her natural hair color, she probably does look younger vs. dyed blonde hair, which can be really hard to get the right undertone for your skin tone and can also look dry/bronzey or flat in color. The issue is the upkeep when the grays start to come in.

This.

Unnatural blonde hair can make some people look older, especially if their hair begins to look damaged from the bleach. Natural hair tends to look glossier, and it probably goes with b your skin color better.

I’m olive skin with blue eyes. Blonde washes me out. I look best (even at 55) with my natural dark brown color. Anytime I go lighter I look older and don’t stand out.

It helps since I still have almost no gray (thanks dad) so I don’t need to do roots but every 6 weeks - even then people will say “you have no gray” why color.

Lighter is not best for everyone—think Sandra Bullock (so much better as a dark brunette) and Angelina Jolie does look as good blonde, etc

I will do very partial, very minimal blonde highlights to give depth.

We don’t go lighter to look younger, we go lighter to hide the regrowth of the gray/white hair.

^ and like pp said my hair looks so much healthier than if I fry it to go blonde or over highlight

THIS ^^. Every woman I know over 50 seems to go blond - regardless of their coloring. It's just a sea of bleached blond women who all look the same, and some look worse because the blond is the wrong tone for them.

I think it's this. Women who go silver gray (versus a steel gray) and have very ashy blonde hair look good, for example.

DIY

I dye mine at home. It covers all the greys amd my teem daughter's friends tell her I look so young - so I know this true - otherwise she wouldn't tell that.

Also olive skin with blue eyes. Darker hair 100% looks better on me and makes me look younger. I've been various stages of blonde and brunette and darker brunette is definitely the most complementary. My hair is naturally a very light brown.

My wife let her grey grow out during the pandemic and I can't imagine why anyone would dye their hair now.

It just look awful. You look awful. Be natural.

who are these rude people commenting on you looks?

Bangs are a youthful style, and since you say you've been doing bayalage for a long time any change to your hair will prompt comments (and hopefully compliments).
