Is there a better place to stay as a base? I'm open to any recommendations (except for Brussels -- we're already planning to stay there for 2 days at the end of our trip.) Thank you!

We moved to each of these cities, 1 night in Lux City, 3 nights in Bruges (first night after traveling from Luxembourg City); one night Ghent and two nights Antwerp (and then back to Amsterdam.)

OP here. We might switch to a 3 night, 2 night, 2 night plan. Which were your 3 favorite places to stay? I'm currently leaning toward Bruges, Antwerp, and Ghent. But maybe we should just rent a car so we have more flexibility/options.

Consider staying in one place and take the train between cities. They are not far apart. Moving between hotels takes a lot of time.

Stay in Brussels and train to Bruges. The train ride is super quick. Use Brussels as your central location—no need to change hotels.

OP here. We are not planning to have a car, so we will be taking the train/bus/tram. (Though the thought has crossed my mind to rent a car for a day or two, so that we can see some different things in the outer areas.) I do not want to stay in Brussels for the whole week, so I am looking for another city/town to use as our base. We've got some hotel recommendations for Bruges (thanks very much, PPs!) that look great, so I think we will be sticking with our original plan. But if anyone has some great places to share in Ghent or Antwerp, I'd love to hear about them. I appreciate it.
