Nah, this ain't it. If you've put in enough years to the team, it does get old. Especially if year after year you begin to age out and the younger families outnumber you particular age range.

If the team continues to be the center of your summer universe after ten years, you probably need to take some day trips throughout this fine area.

Did I say it was the center of my universe? I am definitely not a 10 year in swim team veteran. I do my part to volunteer because meets can’t run without volunteers. At a meet, we cheer on our friends. Part of summer swim is the team building. Both are required to be part of the team, but despite the many reminders, we still have families who only sign up to get their kid into A meets, don’t attend anything else, and don’t help the program as a whole run.

DC losing our FIFTH pair of goggles this summer...

Starting blocks at tryouts, dressing up on theme at meets, swim parents who are cliquey, and volunteer requirements (and/or people who don’t do their share)

Swimmer comparisons across teams and divisions, false accusations of recruiting, constant gossiping behind people’s backs, pool comparisons, general know it alls who don’t actually know anything.

Things I love…team atmosphere, body paint and glitter, the meet themes (that don’t revolve around death), the cheering for every single race like you’re at the Olympics, the kids smiles and excitement of being part of something that is so much greater than just individual success!

While there are so many annoying things about summer swimming (mostly other parents and the drama) I think looking at NVSL and MCSL for all the good and joy it brings the kids is important. These are memories that they will never forget for the rest of their lives.

And a side tip - if the experience at your summer pool is not great most of the time and you/ your kids aren’t happy, leave. Go experience all of the good things in an environment that is supportive and awesome!

Only thing to resent is all the people posting on this thread. Summer swimming is fun, but not if you complain tirelessly about anything and everything.

The notorious CB starter who was at it again this morning at Divisionals. Repeatedly icing kids for no reason and risking false starts.

The starter for E Divisionals was definitely NOT a CB parent.
