I’m so sorry this happened. She’s very strong to not give in to this pressure but I know it is devastating to be dropped by her girlfriends. So so hard and now with college apps. There were good suggestions here. Be kind to yourself as you support her.

This.

Mine was so anxious almost to the point of ulcers. Went TO. Focused on the things that could be controlled. Parents helped out too bc no one needs a breakdown.

Had amazing outcomes.

That you felt compelled to say this suggests that you may have had a hand in causing the anxiety . . . it always starts with the parents.

Take a long weekend and go to Pittsburgh. Visit Pitt (try to go for Blue snd Gold Day), go to cool museums, Phipps conservatory, etc. She can apply in Aug with whatever stage her common app essay is in, and get in early September. Should give her a big boost. And Pitt is a great school. DS didn’t want to apply anywhere else after that acceptance (he did, eventually). Then she’ll know she will go to college and leave the high school mean girls behind.

Pitt is a great school and everyone on this board is constantly telling kids to apply to Pitt, but it is definitely not the only school with rolling admissions.

isolating at home, recently lost friends, no fault of the kids, so this makes it even more difficult

Pretty common. I dont care what anybody says here. Help your kid. Anyway you can. Very easy for some kids to just shut down during this process. It is OK to do some handholding here despite what DCummers will tell you.

I agree with this.
