There is a lot more to South of France than the bigger cities where most go, Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez. We have a house in Cassis which is a good mix. I don't think going to a place where others prefer is awful. There are things to enjoy almost everywhere, why shouldn't people go to where they enjoy? Should people not go to a place they enjoy, now that others are enjoying it?

Cassis is low brow. Yuck.

Also it’s basically Marseille, which is not safe at all. It’s definitely not the Riviera, which is what the OP asked about.

Not PP, but in what world is Cassis low brow? Clearly you do not know it. And Marseille has a lower crime rate than DC and you brave it here.

Try again. Marseille suburbs (Cassis) is not the glitzy Riviera! It’s basically the ferry port. OP should know that, it’s only fair info.

The feature of Cassis is its liquor. Liqueur de cassis, très bon.

Well it's July so it's crowded in Italy I'm sure OP We went in to Venice/Amalfi/Rome last June and holy shit! I cannot imagine more crowds after early June - we go to Europe the first week of June and come back way before July. I would NEVER go anywhere in W Europe after that. Between the crowds and heat, you really need to pick another time to go.
