Atheists are Smarter Than Catholics (at least when it comes to religion)

The fact that atheists, then Jews are on top of the knowledge list didn't surprise me in the least.

Why are Jews so knowledgeable? Is it because it's so ingrained in the culture? Just curious.

And, how can people be such devout Catholics/Protestants and not know basic things about their religion?? These are people trying to convert others to their religion, but they don't even know details about that religion.

Because our mothers made us all become doctors and lawyers.

Ahh, but that would make you knowledgeable about the law or medicine. Right? Not about religion?

I find that Jews tend to have religious holidays more ingrained in their culture. Even not super religious Jews still seem to celebrate holidays and know the actual importance of them.

Forced Sunday school.

I'm an atheist and took several college courses on religion and read countless books. It's fascinating.

I have one friend that recently found Jesus and she is always calling to ask me questions about religion. The kicker is she's constantly asking what I think about this angel or that theory. I'm glad she is curious, but I can't form opinions when I don't believe any of it to be real. That part of the questioning drives me crazy.

The article reinforces that I'm probably better off raising our DD to be an agnostic/atheist. She'll end up smarter and better educated! haha

What about Buddhists?

I think it is more that if you raise your DD to be smart and well-educated she will tend to end up being an atheist. If you want your children to be religious it is probably best to keep them as ignorant and stupid as possible.

I went to a catholic school until I was in 9th grade and was a practicing catholic until I was about 25. I know more about catholicism now that I'm not a catholic than I ever did when I was.

I think agnostics are smarter than atheists.

Do you have any evidence to believe this? Or do you just take this on faith?

I find it amusing that so many Catholics don't know about transubstantiation, given that it is part of the distinguishing line between Catholics and Protestants.

That must be why there has been such an uptick in homeschooling amongst religious Christians.

Yes, the more hard facts you acquire, the less likely you are to buy into fantastical concepts like angel wings; believing you were a worm in a past life; pigs are dirtier than cows and thus cannot be eaten; special underwear makes you holier; women should wear a Darth Vadar get-up to be holier; using milk in a recipe requires special plates ...

It's just my opinion. I only say this because both atheists and the super religious think they know for sure what happens when we die. How do they know? The agnostic doesn't claim to know what cannot be known.

Oh please. ALL my underwear is holy. Who can afford new underwear in this economy?

So you have no evidence either way as to whether atheists or agnostics are smarter? Don't you think in that case, you should withold judgement? We can't know for certain which one is smarter, etc....
