Is toenail polish unprofessional?

I'm a 60 yro professional - I've worn open toed shoes and always have painted toenails. These rules are outdated.

I’m a massage therapist and every high level exec I’ve treated has a gorgeous mani/pedi.

Yes, because they have social functions and fundraisers or work parties to go to. They don't show up to work every day in peep-toe pumps or sandals.

But if OP is going to be doing her own walking in the heat, I agree that nice feet encased in sandals are fine. Tone down the polish. No blue holo, please.

Whether or not these rules are outdated depends upon where you work — and what you do.

This thread makes me sad for the old ladies who are so scrupulous about these outdated rules.

It is perfectly fine to wear cute sandals with freshly polished toes.

Exactly. If you are a lunch lady or a waitress or a shelf-stacker at the grocery store, you absolutely should wear close-toed shoes.

These rules are stupid. Michelle Obama looks great and professional with her colored nails.

DP. I've gotten along fine, with a career path through multiple countries. I wear only Birkenstocks. My "unprofessional" footwear doesn't seem to have held me back at all.

Whether it held you back is irrelevant, it’s still unprofessional.

According to whom? You? And your friends at your little mid-level office job?

To paraphrase Mean Girls, these rules don't exist.

Who is going to know your toenails are painted?

Very tacky to show your toes at all in the work place.

Showing your toes at work as an executive is unprofessional.
