Car help- was totaled

Should clarify...bought a new 2022 because no CPOs were available with desired safety features.

Maybe try reading? It wasn't OP's kid's fault. I would buy him a new basic Corolla and be done with it, OP. I am currently driving the 20 year old Corolla that I bought when my oldest was born. It has cost me less in maintenance over 20 years than my newer Mazda.

I was going to get the Mazda again because it kept them safe and they're used to it and it's a little bigger. In addition, I would possibly use it down the road. How much is a Corolla?

My DD shared the car with him.

I'm getting 4k off MSRP so paying same amount for new 2025 as I did for new 2022 when I got it. Isn't that good or am I missing something? I think it's the idea of a new car for a 20 year old that's bothering me.

For a kid driving long distances, I'd get new with the warranty.

That is good. I think people get so hung up on used cars being a better deal, but they aren't always.

I would agree and so does the kid but the numbers aren't making sense is my point. He's a great driver and this accident wasn't his fault. So I guess my question is: is buying an old one with 30k + miles and no warranty smarter than just getting a new one? It's about 30k for used with 30k miles vs 33k for new which also has lower interest and full warranty. The totaled car was a 2022 w 35k miles. So upset.

New car no question but it like today costs are going up up up .

Then keep it til it dies

Glad your kid is ok.

We had our car totaled as well. If you don’t like the buyout price offered, be prepared to provide proof. Find your car on Carmax, and show them price.

Yes definitely will negotiate.

Mine is old 2015 with no apple CarPlay and less safety features. Has 140k miles. I prefer him in newer because I couldn't care less about cars anyways. He doesn't care about new or used but now that they were fine in the accident, im superstitious

OP, it is a bit hard to understand what help you need from the board. Do you just want to replace the totaled car with the exactly same make/model? And not spend more than the insurance payout? Do you know how much insurance will pay? If not, go on any online car site and enter your car make/model/year/mileage range. It will show what is available for sale in your area. Take the average price of that and you got your insurance payout. Regarding buying new or used I think that a used non CPO car under 36k and 3 year (meaning still under bumper to bumper warranty) can get you the best combo of price and warranty.

Yes I saw one at an auto mall type place. (Are those legit?) and it's about 26k before fees so maybe 4k less than new. But then won't get the 2.9 APR. and they haven't called me back lol

This. We did this for our son and ended up bringing it back home for his sister once he bought himself another car. We have switched cars amongst family members because we buy new and keep the cars well-maintained with good tires and AAA coverage.
