MoCo Ride On buses now free to ride

Another example for Zohran to cite!

It might work here but I’m not sure about urban settings. My sibling teaches at a low income school in a city that did this and the kids are having trouble getting to school because some are now scared to ride the bus because there are a lot of homeless people that just ride the bus and take up lots of seats with their stuff. It’s like the problem they are having with libraries in DC … it’s the problem with a piece meal social safety net,

I’m hoping that doesn’t happen here as my kids take Ride On all the time, and I take it sometimes for work.

Yes, I'm a frequent Ride-On user (and I pay.. well up until last week) and I can see this being an issue. Even a token fare amoutn like 25 cents is enough to keep homeless off.

But with that said, the Bethesda Circulator bus has always been free and it's not overrun with homeless.

This is the correct response by MoCo transit. I'm happy to pay my taxes that will benefit others in society. It's the marker of an advanced society to have a community system in which those in need can opt to participate.

Now waiting for DC WMATA to make metro buses free as was promised. The train should still cost though.

OHHH I'm the PP who said I thought it was already free - nm I confused Ride On with the Circulator

Bad time to read this - my taxes came in the mail yesterday. Over $10k for an unimproved 1500 sq foot house. I am looking at moving out of MD.
