That's what I do w/ my 2022 Subaru. I don't even think about it.
.

I can see that you are not looking for an easy way, with your Subaru or otherwise. Just look at your typing a w/ instead of a with. Don’t you need like to switch screens to do that,

LOL. WTF PP

GM is really much worse about this sort of thing than Subaru. No car mfg spends money advertising issues, unless the Feds require a formal recall. Instead, they just put out a service bulletin.

Unrelated, but sell your Subarus before they get to 85k.

I had a 2018 Forester that I loved and at about 75k my air conditioner compressor died and I was traveling in another state to visit family... had to take it to their mechanic -- he saw my car and before I said anything said "AC Compressor? Yeah, I drive one, my wife drives one and my daughter drives one. They don't make it more than 75k."

And my regular mechanic had warned me for years that the transmission wouldn't make it much past 80k on a post 2015 Subaru... sure enough, 85k comes along and the transmission starts having problems—i asked, is this the problem you referenced, and he said "The first of them! Sell it!"

I had him patch it up to get to the dealership and traded it in for a Honda CRV which I hate to admit is much better.

Subaru sucks. You should have researched it more before you bought one, OP. I'd never purchase one as my daily driver.

PP -- mine was great for the first 85k.

Even at 7yo, with a transmission teetering on the edge of disaster I still got $17k for the thing. My mechanic said 100k is where the value falls off a cliff.

I don't think I'd buy a new one, but no regrets about having that one up to 85k.

This happened to us. It was not a dangerous situation but it definitely could have been and the car literally died in traffic. They replaced the battery (we had bought the car used) and have not had a problem since. That being said I turn off the auto start every time (I don’t like the feature in general) but yeah…I definitely have some ptsd over it - worrying it could happen again. We are not ditching the car but I will be more wary when I get a new one. We received no compensation.

I purchased my first and last Subaru few years back. Don’t get the love for these sub standard cars. Total trash vs Toyota.

We had this problem on our 2019 Forester as well. Mentioned it the dealer and they recommended just turning off the feature at the beginning of a trip. No mention of the TSB bulletin with a repair recommendation.

We recently traded the 2019 in for 2025 Forester touring. We had lots of other little issues with the 2019. Laminate pealing on all the seats was the most annoying one. Didn’t feel like doing the 80,000 maintenance and just traded it in instead. Much happier with the 2025 Touring gotten before the start of the trade war. No issues at all and it feels like a decent upgrade in every way. Obviously lack of power is the typical complaint but it doesn’t bother us. Just wish it had trailer hitch wiring installed by default. Really hard to add it later once it’s out of the factory.

You sound absurd. Move on with your life.

And you sound like a completely unhelpful a-hole. Which you are. Why even bother posting sh!t like this? Do you think it contributes to anything positive?

Do us all a solid and start slamming your head in the nearest door until you take a nap.

As the owner of three Subarus, I wholeheartedly agree.

Great marketing program, mediocre cars.

Anonymous wrote:My 2021 forester has a dangerous design flaw. The battery is underpowered, even if it’s testing fine, which leads the car to stall after the auto stop feature. It has done it to me trying to turn left, on exit ramps, etc. I know I can turn it off but you have to push the button every time you start the car, and I forget.

The fix is a bigger battery, so they put out a service bulletin explaining the bigger battery and how to modify the tray.

But I had to deal with it stalling and go figure all this out on my own. I’m so angry that they didn’t just tell me! I don’t even care about the cost, I just want the dang car to work and not be dangerous. I feel like they’re playing games to avoid repair costs but isn’t it worse that I will never come back? I’m a basic betch so if I feel that way, a lot of people do.

Maybe I’ve just been lucky but I’ve never had a car have a problem like this that is a design failure and not a part failing.

So now I’ve fixed it, but I hate this car and the brand and I don’t like thinking about it even in passing when I drive around.

Should I dump the car? I’ve always driven the cars I’ve owned until at least 100,000 miles, is there a point at which selling a used car gets more or less advantageous?

Just make it your SOP to deactivate the stop-start feature every time you get in the vehicle.

It’ll become habit after a couple weeks and you won’t have to worry about it anymore.

I had this exact problem on my 2016 Pilot.

Auto Stop in general is super annoying (mine isn’t a Subaru.) I wish car companies would stop doing this or at least install a setting to permanently disable the feature.

This is OP. The new battery is working and I’m slowly calming down, lol.

I have a Forester because it was the smallest suv I could find with comfortable front passenger head and leg room for a 6-3 guy. If any knows an alternative, please tell! Unfortunately most of the cars with a lot of head and leg room in the front are gargantuan. And I like having an SUV or some sort of similar hatchback situation for practicality with family/hobby gear.

There’s really nothing else I like about the car though, I have to say. Usually I barely notice my car, and this one constantly annoys me.

I am thinking of installing one of those after market auto stop eliminators, has anyone done that?

Good god OP. I hate that thing as much as anyone out there but how difficult is it just shut it when you start the engine? You have a lot of time.
