Yes. Stay away from C2. Had a terrible experience at the Bethesda location.

When you think about it, there's something a little weird about a tutoring center making you pay upfront a certain number of hours. If the tutor is bad, if your kid doesn't feel comfortable in the group they're assigned, they don't have any incentive to cater to you because you've already paid.

It's business model that caters to desperate parents.

They do give you a 30 day trial, so you can try out various tutors and their curriculum before making a final decision. They don’t assign you to a group, you get to pick the tutor.

And giving an in house "proprierty" diagnostic test with low results also to make families feel their kid is not doing as well to get them to eagerly sign up.

They will switch tutors if not a good match but yep you've already paid thousands for hours you have to use within a calendar year

We tried C2 both in Bethesda and Herndon.

Decent tutors. But at neither locations they taught how to use Demos for Math. That was a big red flag for me.

Their methods are still geared to the old paper SAT Tests.

At Bethesda one staff said they have someone there that worked for College Board and has access to the tests. bogus? Anything to get a new customer? Any other companies where you pay up front for tutoring or test prep?

OP: In Bethesda, they supposedly are now using brand new curriculum for the digital SAT, but I'm not sure how closely it is linked to the College Board. Hence my concern. . .

That would be fraud on the part of the College Board employee.

A staff member who worked for CB but no longer works for CB? If currently working with CB, that's a conflict, but plenty of people move around these kind of companies for work.

But I don't know if they can just leave CB with a ream of tests...

Doubt they did. They just probably know how tests are made. if anyone uses CB bluebook, you can see practice tests, no need for anyone at c2 to show you. Practice practice practice.

They have a location in Rockville and maybe in Silver Spring.

Before pandemic, Sylvan Learning was in Bethesda. You could check that out if they have prep classes.
