Anyone get a diagnosis of dyslexia after it didn't appear on first neuropsyche?

As other posters have noted, if you want to improve spelling you could teach her (or have a tutor) work with her on phonics.

This describes my kid - adhd, not dyslexic, terrible speller. We did a Lindamood Bell program with a speech/language pathologist. She also did OG at elementary school through her IEP (she qualified for OHI based in the educational impact of her spelling). The difference between her spelling (and frustration tolerance) on and off medication is amazing.

Op, my DD ended kindergarten not reading, and I was very concerned (like not even reading CVC words) even though she knew all her letter sounds. We had her tested in early first grade for dyslexia and ADHD. She received an ADHD diagnosis but tested average to low average for the dyslexia tests, so did not get a dyslexia diagnosis.

We moved her to a private school which taught phonics and (god bless her) her first grade teacher got her reading up to grade level by the end of first grade. At that point DD was not medicated for ADHD (but was starting in 2nd grade).

But when reading DD would just skip complex words and reading just seemed really painful for her. She loved it when I read to her, but didn’t want to read by herself. I felt like something was wrong, and we decided to have her tested again in 3rd grade.

This time I pushed the testing provider (very well respected and known group) to do additional testing for reading. I’m glad I did - looking at her test results, DD scored low average for the screening tests, but when the sub tests were administered, she scored very very low on several of them (less than 20%), and high on several of them. She is good at blending words, but cannot attack words or know how to break them down into syllables. These results led to a diagnosis of dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Obviously my DD’s dyslexia is relatively mild, and with intensive remediation she is doing really well now (DD now in middle school). Dyslexia now means that she is a really slow reader and doesn’t do well understanding single sentences or a couple of sentences (like on math word problems). The dysgraphia is also very problematic when writing - DD has an amazing vocabulary but her writing is very simplistic.

If you think something is wrong, I would encourage you to pursue additional testing - dyslexia presents in different ways.
